Howard Johnson Inn Washington Dc

As my stay in Washington DC was under 12 hours in between changing trains, I needed just a room. Hotel prices around Union station are eye wateringly high. However this motel style is around $12 by taxi/ride share each way from Union station. There is no public transport to the best of my knowledge.  Front desk staff member wasn't the best. Difficult to understand and not very welcoming. Rooms are motel style. Basic - double bed, desk and bathroom. Clean and everything working. WiFi worked well. Shower in the bathroom had no gel/shampoo. Water took a couple of minutes before running through hot.  So for $125, consider this as a bargain compared to other hotels in the area.

I went to this hotel and stayed for one night. Never again , the room I got was smelling like cigarettes, the bathroom needed a makeover , the bathroom tub was dirty. The heat in the room didn’t work I tried to turn the heat on it gave me cold air. The microwave is located in the office if you want to warm up your food you will have to go to the office , Also the tv was small and small to see. The walls was not painted but they charged an arm and a leg just for a room that’s not it. The only thing I would say is the pet policy is the best thing! I would rate this motel a 1 star.

Clean, conveniently located and very nice front desk staff. Most affordable place we could find in DC - well run with no problems in the room. Not a walkable neighborhood - but that was not our focus.
