Hotel Defuniak

When we showed up it was 87 degrees inside the family presidential suite. At 10pm it was still over 80 in the room so we left for another hotel. It was absolutely miserable. There was nobody working at the hotel to complain to and nobody answered our calls. When we left at 10pm, we had to leave a voicemail to let them know and request a refund. They never got back to us or refunded the money. Check-in is just grabbing your key off the counter in the lobby. The restaurant was okay, but very limited menu. The building itself is pretty neat. Its a shame our room wasnt habitable and service is non-existent. Oh, the A/C in the room is a small portable unit with a hose connected to a cutout in a door. The ceiling fan didnt even work.

Please lord save your money. To start with I want to say YES IT'S AN OLD HOTEL AND WE LOVE THAT. Aside from that, absolutely not. As soon as you walk into the lobby it's sweltering hot. Since I have a disability I require AC. That should have been the first sign. There isn't anyone at the desk. They lay your paperwork there with a key on top for your room. Contactless check in, that's not bad. Weird, yes, but bad no.. even though our information is laid out for whoever to see so we can sign the receipt. Going up to the room the carpeted stairs are absolutely disgusting. Dust, food crumbs, some kind of white stuff?? Hasn't been cleaned in probably as long as the place has been constructed. When we got into our room it was at least 90 degrees. We stayed in room 9 (the one with two rooms). It smelled terrible and the floors were so gross we stuck to them every step. The day bed had new throw pillows but no regular ones and had a HUGE stain on the middle of the comforter. We weren't sleeping in that part so we didn't say anything. Going into the main room, where we would be, that comforter was not acceptable. It had a bunch of burn holes in it and what looked like dried blood. The ceiling fans in both rooms had dust at least an inch thick on the blades. My husband did go find them for a new comforter. When we spread it out a huge burst of "left in the washing machine for two days" hit my nose (y'all know that smell). Also, please notice that it says he went to find them and we had to put it down. The bathroom had mold growing in the shower. We didn't step foot in there. I do have to say that the bathroom was the only good smelling room and the mattress was amazing. The AC did not cool off the room until probably midnight and we got there at 6pm. Also, the complimentary breakfast, was kuerig coffee. That's it. When we got the new comforter it was a waitress from that connecting nasty restaurant. All of this tells me that the place is awful not because of the staff but because the owner is too cheap to maintain the business. I felt really bad for those girls because they are spread thin. It could be a really cute place that qualifies as a boutique but as it is now.. I'm surprised we didn't see roaches honestly. We stay at historical bed and breakfasts at least once a month. This needs to be sold off to someone who cares. I wish I could give this dumpster fire a negative 12 stars

What a great find in downtown DeFuniak, Florida! Old timey hotel that is a real blast from the past! Undated, clean and modern but with that "Western" old time charm. People are friendly and the place is very comfortable. The room is small and has a legitimate water closet but the lobby and "library" is so inviting and warm. Simply charming. This is a great place to rest and relax as we explore the charming downtown, DeFuniak Springs, and surrounding areas. We came to enjoy the fresh cold and clear spring waters from a hot Louisiana summer!
