Super 8 Motel - Defuniak Springs

My stay at Hotel 8 was absolutely unacceptable. The first room they gave me had a hole in the wall about 10 inches wide, and roaches were crawling in and out of it. It was filthy. I tried to get another hotel but everyone was full and it was late. The second unit they put me in was not any different, toilet didn't work, the bathtub wouldn't drain and was full of hair, black mold, dirty towels, cigarette burns in bed covers, all lamps were rusted, chair peeling , the sink wouldn't drain, the exhaust fan didn't work, and the floors (vynil planks) were loose and felt unsafe. The entire room was extremely dirty, dead and live roaches, shower curtain didnt have liner and was filthy...clearly this hotel had not been properly cleaned or maintained. The conditions were so bad that I honestly believe the health department should inspect this property. No guest should ever have to stay in a room like that. I would strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to stay somewhere else. By the way it was 114 per night. Bait and switch as well. Please look for another hotel don't stay here.

We had a reservation for 2 nights here. We arrived at 11:50PM on the first night and no one was at the desk to check us in. Another customer was also trying to check in. We rang the doorbell and tried calling the phone for 10 minutes before going to another hotel where we had to pay significantly more. I called the next morning to find out what happened and the associate that answered the phone (Raj) told me he would have to check with the night attendant to see what happened. Since it was a 2 night stay he said we could figure out some compensation on the 2nd night rate if we came over to check in. We arrived and he informed us the night attendant usually leaves at 11:00PM which is why we were stranded. Again, there was no stipulation that you must arrive by a certain time. I informed Raj of this and he was dismissive and rude. He told me they could apply the same rate I booked at for the 2nd night. I booked at full price. I asked why he said he could give us a discount if he wasn't going to and again he was rude and dismissive. This property clearly doesn't not value their customers and doesn't care if they waste your time. I would avoid it completely.

Terrible experience. There was no one at the front desk. The room smelled like pee. I complained about noise and when the receptionist finally appeared, they said I could stay a little longer for the trouble… just for housekeeping to start banging on the door 10 mins later. Do not recommend!
