This was our first (and last) time staying here.
The positives:
-Fairly clean resort (no trash, floors stayed clean)
-Not a far walk to parking garage
-4 elevators
-Tiki bar and snack shack had good food and drinks
-Good central location
The negatives:
-5 ROWS of beach chairs and umbrellas you have to sit behind! 320 chairs! And most were not even rented the whole week! You cannot set up to the left or right because of private property
-Security was a bit tight. Lots of employees walking around pool area
-Cockroaches outside on 8th floor
-The trash chute design is absolutely horrible. Do not book a room on either end of a floor unless you hate sleep. It’s worse on the weekend when people are leaving. We heard banging from the trash coming down from the floors above us at all hours
-The rules are pretty strict….no vaping, no tents, no canopies at all. Did I mention the excessive number of chairs for rent?
-Pool closed at dusk
We have stayed at several other resorts with far lenient rules and no problems.

MY EMAIL TO ADMINISTRATION:
Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to formally document and escalate a very serious and disappointing experience at Pelican Beach Resort.
There is a clear and ongoing issue with lounge chair “reservation” at the pool and beach areas.
By approximately 9:30am, nearly every chair was already covered with towels, yet many of those chairs remained completely unused for at least three hours.
This creates an unfair and frustrating situation for guests who are physically present and trying to enjoy the amenities they paid for.
I was specifically told by maintenance staff that chairs are not allowed to be reserved with towels.
However, this policy is clearly not being enforced at all.
I brought this issue to staff and was directed to security.
After speaking with them, I was then sent to management, including Alizae Marie Swain (Administrative Assistant) and Tanel Rihtla (“Dan,” Chief of Maintenance).
I made a simple and reasonable request: review camera footage to confirm that these chairs were abandoned for hours and enforce the policy accordingly.
That request was dismissed.
Instead of addressing the concern, I was met with dismissive and unprofessional behavior.
Alizae Marie Swain in particular was disrespectful and even asked if I was joking for raising a legitimate concern. At no point did anyone attempt to resolve the issue or take accountability.
What is most concerning, however, is how this situation was escalated. Rather than attempting to resolve a straightforward guest concern, Alizae Marie Swain and Tanel Rihtla escalated the matter to the point that law enforcement was contacted.
The sheriff was called to the property within approximately one hour, despite the fact that my request was limited to addressing unused lounge chairs and enforcing an existing policy.
This level of escalation was unnecessary, disproportionate, and deeply concerning.
Calling law enforcement in response to a reasonable guest request reflects a serious breakdown in judgment, professionalism, and customer service.
This is not just about lounge chairs. It reflects a broader failure in policy enforcement, guest experience, and basic operational management.
Guests should not have to compete with unattended towels holding spots for hours with no oversight, nor should they be subjected to extreme escalation when raising legitimate concerns.
Management had an opportunity to address a clear and ongoing issue and instead allowed the situation to escalate in an inappropriate and unacceptable manner.
Given the clear failure to enforce stated policies, the impact this had on our ability to use amenities we paid for, and the unnecessary escalation involving law enforcement, I am requesting appropriate compensation for the diminished and disrupted guest experience.
I would appreciate a prompt response outlining how this matter will be addressed, including a review of staff conduct and policy enforcement procedures.
Please note that I am also documenting this experience through booking platforms and other travel review platforms to ensure this situation is fully and accurately represented for future guests.
Regards,
Delene Bailey
