South River Suites

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! This place is disgusting, we were greeted by a boy who couldn’t care less if he tried, he was too interested in whatever it was on his phone. We checked in, walked into our room and immediately felt dirty. The place is atrocious, a deluxe room with a double bed ??? And a broken chair! The smell nearly made me vomit, but then the smoke detector starting going off. After 7 minutes we went down and spoke to the boy, his attitude was it’s been going since I started at 3pm, it was now after 5. He said he couldn’t do anything about it, it was probably someone cooking. So I phoned hotels.com and complained. How this place managed to get any stars is beyond me. Many unsavoury characters hanging around this joint… I felt like I needed to be scrubbed down after being there. The mould in the ancient AC, is a health hazard!

This hotel is awful. The manager is horrible and avoids customers to avoid resolving issues or compensation. They also lie. Our room was not ready 3 hours after check in. After being asked to wait 20 minutes we went upstairs 30 + minutes later and the room was still not ready. We stood in the hallway for over 20 more minutes. We were then moved to another room after being told no other 3 bedrooms were available. Were told this was an "upgraded room" however the room was dirty. Floors, walls, the couch, etc. All dirty. There were cracking in the walls. The shower rod was rusted. The shower head was rusted. The kitchen appliances were old. The bathroom sink didn't drain. When we complained about the sink and the fact the remote wasn't working, we were told someone would have to fix it tomorrow. We asked to speak to a manager, who supposedly would also be there tomorrow. When we asked for extra towels because we booked a room for 5 people and the room only we were told that there were no other towels in the hotel and we would have to wait until tomorrow. I had to go back downstairs to talk to the person coming on shift who eventually went to an empty room to get us towels. There was no additional bedding in the room for the futon, though they advertise the room as "sleeps 8". The next day, I went to talk to the manager, who was not there but spoke with the Assistant Manager about the above problems. All he did was apologize and say he could not do anything and would call the manager to see what accommodations would be made for all of the issues and the room not being available for the time it was booked. (Still unclear what the title of Assistant General Manager is for if he cannot solve any issues.) He later called to tell me that the only thing they could do was a late checkout, which we did not need, and if I had any questions, I could talk to the manager on Monday at 11. In the meantime, we still had to request more towels each day even when the cleaning ladies saw the number of people in the room while "cleaning". That being said, they did not clean the room. They just replaced the towels and cleaned the shower after we complained about the rust. The beds were not made, the floors were not cleaned, and the trash was not taken out during the 4 day stay. No one fixed the sink or the remote. We had to pull the drain stopper out ourselves. On Monday, we went to the desk at 11 to be told that the manager would not be in today and we would have to call speak to him tomorrow. It should not be impossible to get in contact with a manager for a 4 day stay. I called multiple times each day afterwards and the manager was always "in meetings all day" with no time to take a phone call. The assistant manager wasn't helpful and the guy at the front desk passing messages along from the manager (who was somehow responding to him but not available to get on the phone) was never able to answer any questions and only stated there was nothing they could do for compensation. So much for customer service. I would never recommend any stay here. Horrible building. Horrible service.

The room was clean, but there are basically no other amenities and the bed was very small and uncomfortable. The pillows had to be doubled over to provide any head support. This was listed as a 3.5 star on Hotwire, but that is just not accurate at all. More like 2.5 to 3 range.
