The Desoto Inns

Well, what can I tell you.. A picture tells a thousand words.. Place was not what we were expecting from seeing other reviews.. From the very first second we stepped into our unit it was horrible.. The smell of mold and mildew hit us as soon as we opened the door..They had strong air fresheners plugged in to mask the mold smell. The place hasn’t been updated in years.. the stove was filthy.. my wife had to wash out the coffee maker before we could use it.. We both woke up the first morning with headaches from the smell of the unit and my wife found the cause from black mold everywhere in the bathroom. We asked to switch rooms but was told nothing was available until the next night.. We finally switched rooms after another night and another headache. The second room was cleaner but now another 2 nights of not sleeping because the noise from the AC unit kept us up all night.. I can’t attach a video so can’t show how bad the AC was. I’ve read reviews like this before but thought people were over reacting but guess it can happen to anyone.. Especially staying the Desoto Inn.. I was talking with another couple staying in the unit next to ours and they were disgusted with the place themselves. I was also told I would receive compensation for the inconvenience of our unit but have waited over 3 months and haven’t hear a thing from the Desoto Inn.. really wasn’t expecting to!!! Just look at the pictures and you can make your own decision about staying at the Desoto Inn………..

The Desoto Inn Hollywood Beautiful location, unsatisfactory communication 972084525 The Desoto Inn Hollywood Beautiful location, unsatisfactory communication 972074260 I was excited to rent an 'apartment' per the website at this serene location steps from the beach. When I recieved an email back from the host of the property, he said he looked forward to receiving us 'at our apartment' at Desoto. Per their website this is a good size area with a king bed and pull out sofa and kitchenette. When we arrived we were given the studio room, the host had called me previously and asked if we wanted to upgrade to a king bed from a queen and apparently this somehow meant that we were being given the studio room instead of the apartment. When we paid it was now called an 'efficiency' which apparently means the 'room' instead of the 'apartment' which we booked. I don't know what they call the 'apartment' as that is what they advertise on the website. This was discouraging as the quarters were tight as we like to make our own food in the mornings and relax and adding to this error was that one of the gas stoves burner didn't work the entire time and was never taken care of. This threatened to put a damper on our stay but because of the ambience of the surroundings and some delightful neighbors we put this aside and soaked it all in. This certainly has made me more aware that what a website advertises is not always what they deliver and I will be more cautious next time and not fall for the same ruse.

Hard to know how to rate the Desoto. I knew what it was before coming and didn't have high expectations. It met my expectations as basic as they were however rating this as anything above an average hotel would be a stretch. The rooms are nice and clean and well-appointed while also being very basic and dated. I took advantage of many little details such as beach chairs, coolers, etc. The grounds have a lot of potential if the landscaping is kept up better. Overall the small grounds area is very inviting and well set up. Just would help if it the upkeep was better. Overall the location is essentially on the beach so you can't beat that. No big complaints but know it's a basic accommodation for those mainly looking to spend their time at the beach. Staff are very attentive and courteous.
