Papa's Hideaway

My husband and I stayed in unit #4 this Monday-Thursday. Love the easy check-in with codes for key box and gate. Also love that we were able to park right across Louisa St. from our unit. Super-convenient! The free Duval loop bus made it easy to get to the historic district for tours and bar hopping. The unit was super-clean and well-appointed. Would not have wanted to cook our own meals but we could have. Kitchen had everything we would have needed. Bedding nice and comfortable. Pool area was lovely and nice to cool off there in the hot days. Only drawback for us was noise from the unit above us the last bight. We were lucky to have that upstairs unit empty the other nights as we could hear someone stomping around up there until the wee hours. We will book an upper unit if we stay there again. All in all, a lovely place with beautiful grounds and great location. A good value!

This place was a really gem just a block from Duval St. The grounds are amazing it’s all fenced in and full of Palm trees and plants. It’s almost like your secluded in the city. We stayed in Garden of Eden cottage and it was nice could use some TLC but nothing that really bothered us. I definitely would recommend.

We only stayed for one night at Papa’s Hideaway, so we thought that the $404, although on the high side, would be worth it. It wasn’t. We have stayed in many Airbnb and VRBO’s and were very disappointed in the minimal amenities provided by this establishment. The place is pretty much ‘self-serve’ with very little communication via email or test and absolutely no personal interaction from management (Vacasa). Even the little interaction we had was unpleasant. When we realized we were going to be arriving a little before the 4:00 pm check-in, we requested a check-in at 3:45. We were told ‘No’. Really? And it wasn’t because the unit wasn’t ready. It was. The coffee maker and prepackaged coffee was the least expensive available (it made horrible coffee) and no bottled water. There were 4 bath towels, however, only one washcloth and one hand towel. Nearly every feature of this unit seemed to be the least expensive possible. On the positive side, the location is good near Duval Street and the bed was confortable. Also, there was a ‘For Sale’ sign on the property. Perhaps slashing costs will make the property appear more attractive to potential investor? Regardless of the motive, best to keep looking.
