Residence Inn Miami Airport South

Checked into this hotel last week for one night. Stern, unfriendly woman at front desk as we checked in. We are platinum and I requested an upgrade which she said wasn’t available unless we wanted a handicap room. Fine, we took it. I asked if we were still allowed a small bag of chips (welcome gift) from the snack area and she said no, and slammed down two small bottles of water on the front desk and said that was our ‘gift’. Sheets on our bed didn’t fit either, kept popping up over the sides. We’ve stayed at this hotel around 15 times and it used to be fine. We’ll go back to the Marriott for future visits.

We spent one night here between flights into and out of Miami Airport. The pros: it's near the airport with hotel shuttles every 15 min. from 5am to 1am; clean, spacious suites; decent complimentary breakfast (scrambled eggs or egg whites, with fresh spinach, shredded cheese and salsa as toppings; bacon; sausage biscuit sandwiches; make-your-own waffles; breads and pastries; cereal; oatmeal; yoghurt and whole fruits, plus coffee, tea, hot cocoa and juices). The cons: on arrival, the hotel shuttle passed us without stopping, and 15 minutes later we had to flag it down to get it to stop; the bedding only includes a duvet and bottom sheet, which is quite warm for Miami, even with the air conditioning on.

We booked a king room the night prior to our cruise and turned out to be a great choice. The room was clean and quiet; even for being a first floor room. The front desk staff was awesome, giving us access to the room hours before check-in time. Security presence was noticeable, but they were all friendly! No direct restaurant on site, but they are a very quick walk to the other Marriott locations. No pool, but they did have a nice whirlpool on site. Would definitely book again for a quiet pre-cruise stay or before a flight out of MIA
