We stayed at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort for a 2-day 4th of July weekend and unfortunately left extremely disappointed. The only positive was the newly renovated Executive Oceanfront Suite we were eventually moved into. We originally booked an Executive Oceanfront Suite and were assigned Room 201. Although technically oceanfront, it was on the second floor with trees almost completely blocking the ocean view. This was not the experience we expected when paying for an oceanfront suite. I immediately spoke with the manager upon arrival and requested another room but was told nothing was available. After I submitted a complaint through Marriott Bonvoy, another manager stepped in and kindly moved us to a 4th-floor suite, which finally provided the oceanfront experience we had booked. That manager’s willingness to help was truly the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, the problems continued. * In our original room, the electricity went out twice, requiring engineering to respond each time. * We were ultimately forced to move rooms, but there was no room immediately available, leaving us to pack all of our belongings in the dark. * Throughout the ordeal, there was very little empathy or concern from management. It felt like we were simply another problem to process rather than valued Marriott guests. The issues didn’t stop there. When retrieving our vehicle from valet, the attendants simply handed us the keys without mentioning that our tire was completely flat. We discovered it ourselves after loading our luggage. Even more frustrating, a maintenance employee later told us the vehicle had apparently been sitting there with the flat tire for quite some time. No one from valet informed us or offered any assistance. As a result: * We had to purchase a new tire for $200 during our holiday weekend. * No one from valet or management offered meaningful assistance. * Marriott would not even refund the valet parking charges. Other disappointments included: * Blankets requested for our room took over an hour to arrive. * The pool looked murky and cloudy throughout our stay (see attached photo), making it unappealing. * My daughter was given a beach gate access code by the concierge that did not work, forcing her to walk around through the dumpster area just to get back into the hotel. After all of these issues, management’s solution was a $100 resort credit, which did not begin to compensate for the inconvenience, frustration, extra expense, and disappointing holiday experience. We have always enjoyed staying at Marriott properties and expected much better service, especially over a holiday weekend. Problems can happen at any hotel. What matters is how they’re handled. Unfortunately, what stood out most was the lack of communication, accountability, and genuine concern for guests. The renovated suites are beautiful, and the manager who moved us to the 4th floor deserves recognition for trying to make things right. However, that was the only bright spot during what should have been a relaxing Fourth of July vacation. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this property until guest service and problem resolution improve significantly.
