Shipwatch condos are technically on the beach, as there are no structures between it and the beach, but it’s quite a trek to get to the water’s edge where you want to put your chair and umbrella. There a nice boardwalk part of the way with a couple of benches to rest if you need to, and there is a shower and hose to rinse off before you get to the pool area. Once the boardwalk ends at the beach, however, you still have a long walk in the sand before you get to where you want to set up. I stay on he beach so that I can easily go back to the room for lunch or to grab something I forgot, but if you didn’t bring it with you the first trip, you are not gonna want to make that trek again...it is that daunting. It’s a beautiful beach, however, and there is a wonderful tidal pool at low tide, which would be great for families with small children. The condos, themselves, are nice. Each has a balcony...not overlooking the beach but still enjoyable. They are small, especially the kitchen, but comfortable enough for four people. St Simons has plenty of cute shops and restaurants, and it’s really very lovely. It’s actually busier than I expected...I thought it was more of a sleepy beach town. We go to the beach multiple times a year and have been to beaches all over, but I would not return to Shipwatch just because of that hike to the beach.
