The Maui Banyon Resort that my wife and I booked and stayed at in July 2026 through RCI booking was a miserable experience. The resort has few redeeming qualities. The room itself was satisfactory but only standard, but the rest was very disappointing. The two ceiling-mounted air conditioners blew cold air directly into our faces in the TV/living area and bedroom. Our room's first-floor patio had a view of only the asphalt street and three-story parking garage, and no vegetation in front to soften the harsh view. No other windows. Parking for non-owners was restricted to the third floor of the parking garage, which had no shelter from the scorching sun and NO ELEVATOR. Just a few parking spaces were available for non-owners in a lot at the far end of the resort, which forced us to cross nine sharp speed bumps to access and a walk back down the street. The grounds and sparse garden area with a tiny pool had no shade and no view either, other than over a vegetated barrier wall, beyond which was an unkempt, overgrown, empty lot. That was the view only if you had an upper floor away from streetside. No amenities, such as rental chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc. were available. The inside access, down a dim hallway required punching in a six-digit code, as did the pool. It felt like a cheap Motel 6. Our unit had no sidewalk access to the front office, so we walked across the lawn to avoid the incredibly hot asphalt. Oh yeah, the one morning we ventured onto the patio, we were greeted by a huge, loud garbage truck that was emptying the trash bins across the street and directly in front of our room. To top it off, the city had closed the street a half block from the resort entrance, blocking auto access to the rest of the town. We had to detour a mile around on residential streets behind the resort to drive to shops and restaurants. Of course, the best part of the beach with facilities across the main street was several blocks down. The resort's shower for those returning from the beach was in the median of the street! What was once free parking at the beach changed overnight to $10 per day during the middle of our stay. RCI should remove this one-star resort from its selections.
