Poipu Kai Resort

We stayed in Regency 524. Let me preface by saying in previous years we’ve stayed in both Kahala and Manualoha properties that we’re both 10/10 and absolutely fabulous. This review is specifically for Regency 524. Upon arrival when we unpacked and moved some things on the kitchen counter we noticed bugs running around. We don’t get cockroaches where we live so it took us a bit to realize what it was. We ended up seeing them not only on the counter but inside cupboards, coming out from the baseboards and the last straw was having them crawl on my son’s face at night. After a couple of days we reached out to the office. They immediately sprayed the unit while we were out that day. Unfortunately the problem was only reduced a bit. The unit is heavily infested and we still had lots of bugs for the remainder of our trip. The other thing we did not love about this unit was how dated it is. Both of the other units we’ve staged in have been renovated and were beautifully decorated with Hawaiian decor, nice bedding and furniture. I believe they are owned by families who cared about the feel of the unit. This unit looks like it hasn’t had an update in 30 years. The carpet was gross, the tile stained and broken in spots. The cupboards are definitely the original and the bathrooms not nice. The decor is boring with art work that looks faded and from a 30 year old discount bin. The furniture and bedding also very basic. Based on the basic decor and lack of warmth in the unit, I believe it is owned by an investment company that just rents out units and doesn’t care to improve the unit as long as it makes money. I love Suite Paradise but would not recommend this unit. It was very low priced for a large unit so that should have been a red flag. Do your research and if there are only sporadic reviews on their website it could be a red flag. I submitted a review like this but it’s not posted on their site. The location of Suite Paradise and the staff are all fantastic, just choose your rental wisely.

This was our 4th time using Suite Paradise and staying at Poipu Sands. We really enjoyed access to the Poipu Beach Athletic Club’s pool and restaurant. We were not happy with the daily roofing construction project that we were not told was happening. If we had known, we would’ve stayed at another property. Additionally, we were out all day exploring Kauai, and when we got home, the locks had been changed on our unit with no notice and no key! Luckily, we caught someone in the office after hours to get a new key, but it was inconvenient and caused a lot of stress following a fun day. I’ve always had a good experience with Suite Paradise, but I may look at different options for our next trip.

Booking your condo with Suite Paradise is the only way to do it in our experiences. They have requirements that guarantee you are getting a remodeled and functional condo with all of the necessities (and all in working order) and the amenities. They are quick to respond to any problems that may arise and just are all so friendly and nice to deal with. We have stayed at the Poipu Kai Resort for the past several years, using different booking options. We were disappointed more than once. We'll be sticking with Suite Paradise - they know these condos!
