Waikoloa Beach Marriott

I have stayed at this property multiple times, and this was my second visit this year. It was last-minute, as my rental unit on Kauai was unavailable due to the hurricane. Upon check-in, Laura R at the front desk was exceptionally kind and understanding, and worked with this frazzled traveler to provide an awesome experience. I can’t thank her and the entire team for their help. I’m looking forward to returning.

The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort is a gorgeous property on big island. I stayed here for two nights during my birthday weekend and enjoyed my entire stay from check in to check out. Lisa was the front desk agent that checked me in and she was very informative about the property. Sonia also called later that same night just to make sure that everything went smoothly at check-in. There was a wedding party that was there during my stay but I wasn’t really bothered as the DJ played good tunes and stopped promptly at around 10pm. The pool area was definitely noticeably more crowded the next day but there are enough chairs and room for everyone in the two pools. Also, I booked through AMEX travel but was still able to enjoy my Bonvoy Gold benefits as I was upgraded upon arrival and was given welcome amenities such as 2 free drinks and they even sent up a box of cookies for my birthday. The open air lobby has an amazing view of the beach nearby- you can also walk to it and the water is calm and swimmable. The room was clean and the partial ocean view was nice. If I had to nitpick - I will say that the toilet needs an upgrade as the flushing power is very low and you do need to hold it down for a bit. As for the surrounding area- King’s Shops are right across the street and Queen’s Marketplace is about an 8 minute walk from the resort. I definitely suggest Queens if you are looking for something to eat as they have a food court and an Island Country Market (basically a big ABC store) with a deli. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Waikoloa Beach Marriott and would recommend it to anyone interested in staying on Kona side of big island.

What a disappointment to end our stay in Hawaii… We thought we would finish these 15 days on a high note, but unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. After having stayed in several Hyatts, the fall was particularly hard! First of all, I had booked a room with a balcony. Upon our arrival, we were assigned a room on the ground floor, with a direct view of the parking lot… Woohoo! We traveled across the planet to discover Hawaii and, for our last stay, we were entitled to a view of the cars! Well, we told ourselves that it is not that serious… But upon discovering the room, another disappointment: no bottle of water available and not even any reusable bottles to fill them at the hotel's fountains. If you are thirsty, you therefore have to go buy your bottle… For a hotel of this standing, it is truly regrettable. Likewise, they offer a welcome drink; we had a reservation for 4 people, there were…. 2 drinks!! We pointed it out to the hostess at the front desk, but she told us that was just how it was (that girl was awful, by the way). The rooms: we lived with cockroaches!!!! During our check-out we reported it, the hostess said to us: "oh my god" and that was it: no apology, no gesture. I would like to point out that the staff at check-in and check-out is extremely unpleasant; I have never seen this behavior in the many hotels we have stayed at all over the world: it is pathetic! And the worst is yet to come. Our flight being at 9:40 PM, with more than 16 hours of travel afterward, we asked if it was possible to keep the room until 5:00 PM, for an extra charge, in order to be able to enjoy the pool quietly in the afternoon and especially to take a shower before our long trip. Answer: no, impossible! No effort, no solution proposed, no possibility of extending our room, even by paying, once again a super unpleasant and incompetent person. We waited and asked another person who, after sighing at length, agreed for a fee to let us keep our room until 6:00 PM. It is clearly the only hotel of our stay where we had the feeling that no effort was made to satisfy the customer. Too bad, because we really wanted to end our magnificent trip on a good note. Very disappointed and we do not recommend this establishment, especially if you are used to a certain level of service and attention in hotels: stay away!!
