Waimea is a town that is awaking from its former sleepy laid-back state. I grew up there in the 60's and visited several times in the 2010-2024 period and started seeing new businesses mostly catering to tourists. In June 2026 I returned for my 60th class reunion and instead of booking the hotels in Kapaa and Poipu I chose the West Inn. I was pleased to stay at the West Inn, a reasonably-priced hotel. $290 a night. Clean, convenient, with all-new appliances and furniture. I was upgraded to a suite that was very clean and comfortable. A/C of course, kept me cool. Plenty of parking, helpful staff. Very hot water for soaking in the tub. I'll stay there again. Some reviews complained that it was not a resort. Of course not, Waimea is not a resort town. One stays there to enjoy what Kauai was like 30 years ago. Drive west on Kaumualii highway. When you reach Hanapepe it's like stepping into a time machine, and the years get older the further west you go. Don't miss Polihale and Kokee State Park, the latter has killer-view hiking trails.

Wonderful surprise . Alert Senior citizens to request ground floor. Difficulties carrying luggage. All else great kitchenette. Comfortable big room. Great plumbing!
