Barksdale House Inn

This is a very appealing Inn. It has a back house and a front house and offers parking for a fee. Our daughter had stayed in the back house before and had no issues. We got room #9 on the 3rd floor that’s okay there is no elevator fyi. We get there they can’t find where we have paid and supposedly they have changed their system and the girl didn’t want to go to the basement to find the paperwork. Well okay. So we are given room #9, 3rd floor, no elevator fyi, we didn’t mind this. It’s also an older home of which it has older home issues like a musty smell. We get to our room should have left when we found the food in the dresser closet, it wasn’t just one item it was multiple. The AC then starts going up to 76 can’t get it down. We asked to switch rooms they had none available. We stick it out for the night. AC doesn’t ever go below 71, in the heat on 3rd floor this needs to be better. While this is an older home there upkeep is not good the dresser drawers which are large has only one handle the other handles on each drawer are gone. Then we proceed to find a ring on the floor in plain sight. Then the AC proceeds it climb up. We decided to leave and did so before 9am left the key in the box provided. Texted them what we were doing even called and left a message and asked for a refund. Never heard from them. What business does that. Would not recommend this place.

Located in a quiet historic house, in walking distance to the main downtown and tourist area, also close to the Charleston University. I stayed on the ground floor in what must have been a sitting room but is a large and very comfortable guest room. Quaint: the bed is of a type that one has to use steps to get into, typical of 18th-19th century. The bathroom is small but had everything. There is a pleasant parlor, with water, hot water and tea/coffee and snacks available 24 hours a day and an enclosed porch with tables for breakfast. Breakfast was generous for a bed and breakfast. There is also a small garden with a fountain. The staff was outstandingly helpful and friendly.

Room was fairly large and clean but up 3 flights of stairs and no lift. Lady in reception did help us with our bags. Everything creaked which is to be expected. Parking was good. Location was good. Everything was clean Breakfast cooked to order was ok. Not sure I would stay again
