HI - Chicago Hostel

Really nice hostel within walking distance of many attractions. Had a private room with bath and took advantage of the well-equipped kitchen. There was also a reataurant next door to the hostel which was handy. As HIUSA members we have visited many hostels and this was one of the best.

We could stay with the 4 of us in 1 room including private bathroom.which made it all comfortable. Twinbed could be a bit bigger. It s a hostel not a Hilton of course. Big common room. Many activities organized. Very well organized. Location is very good. Michigan Avenue around the corner and major attractions very walkable (Fields Museum, Art Insitute, Millenium Park, the river, the Bean, etc etc). Agreeable stay.

I booked this hostel because I didn't want to spend a fortune on accommodation in downtown Chicago. While it was affordable, it was also terribly noisy due to the L running in front of the building. Windows are single glazed so no hope of noise reduction there. The a/c blew a constant stream of cold air onto the bed. We weren't able to adjust or switch off as it was centrally controlled. Staff were friendly and managed to check us in but unable of further assistance. Next time I'll spend more money for relaxing sleep.
