Sonesta ES Suites Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile is one of those rare hotels that manages to combine the comfort of an apartment, the convenience of a hotel, and an outstanding downtown location into a package that is difficult to beat. After our stay, it truly felt less like a hotel and more like a home away from home.
We stayed in a One-Bedroom King Suite of approximately 70 square meters (around 750 square feet), and the amount of space was remarkable by downtown Chicago standards. The suite was thoughtfully designed, exceptionally comfortable, and offered distinct living and sleeping areas that made extended stays particularly enjoyable.
One of the suite’s greatest strengths is its fully equipped open kitchen. Unlike the limited kitchenettes often found in hotels, this one includes a full-size refrigerator, oven, range, microwave, dishwasher, and all the cookware, utensils, dishes, and cutlery needed to prepare and enjoy meals just as you would at home. For guests planning a longer stay, this feature alone can be a tremendous advantage. The building also offers laundry facilities, further enhancing its appeal for extended visits.
The location is exceptional. Situated in the heart of Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile district, guests are within easy walking distance of many of the city’s most iconic attractions. Oak Street Beach, Rush Street, Michigan Avenue, the Water Tower, the John Hancock Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the Loop can all be reached on foot. The hotel is also only steps away from a subway station, making it extremely convenient for exploring neighborhoods throughout the city without relying on a car.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, well-maintained, and intelligently designed to maximize both functionality and comfort. While breakfast is relatively simple compared to some full-service hotels, its inclusion adds value and provides a convenient start to the day.
Equally impressive was the staff. Every team member we encountered was attentive, polite, professional, and genuinely helpful. A special thank you goes to front desk receptionist Zohra, who made our stay seamless and memorable from the moment we arrived. Her warmth, professionalism, efficiency, and willingness to assist with any request exemplified the level of hospitality that makes guests feel genuinely welcome. She left a lasting positive impression and deserves special recognition.
What sets Sonesta ES Suites apart is its versatility. It works equally well for business travelers, vacationing couples, families with children, medical visitors to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and anyone planning an extended stay in Chicago. Few hotels manage to serve such a wide range of guests so effectively.
Tip: If available, opt for the One-Bedroom King Suite. The additional space and fully equipped kitchen dramatically enhance the experience, especially for stays longer than a few days. With a Whole Foods Market, restaurants, shopping, public transportation, and many of Chicago’s top attractions nearby, you’ll have everything you need within easy reach.
For us, Sonesta ES Suites truly became our home away from home in Chicago. It offers comfort, convenience, value, and location in equal measure. We would not hesitate to stay here again and fully expect it to be our first choice whenever our travels bring us back to Chicago.

The location and size of apartment is great. But the rest is below average. Cleanliness from the entrance to the apartment needs a lot of work. Breakfast is appalling, to say the least. Cold - service and quality - and self service in plastic plates and cutlery. Better not to have breakfast included! And information on the website regarding parking is misleading! It says on site parking available but it’s only valet at 70$ a night!! There’s no self parking option which it does not say on the website.

This is a very nice hotel in a swanky part of town. It's right off the Magnificent Mile and within 5 minutes of Water Tower Plaza. There is easy access to bus routes that will take you to most points of the city. It's a little more of a walk to get to the L.
The rooms are clean, modern, and spacious and I didn't notice anything in need of repair. The front desk workers are very friendly and accommodating.
The price is reasonable, overall. I think the breakfast is decent, but could be a tiny bit better with more variety. I'm also not a fan of the check-in policy. It's pretty late and you have to pay $40 if you want to check in early. This doesn't seem to be a big issue at most hotels, which tend to let you in early if a room is cleaned.
