W Chicago City Center

Excellent location downtown close to the train and thus connection to most of the city. Safe. Easy check-in. Good service. Clean and well furnished room. Breakfast could easily be much healthier and does not quite meet the price.

Our $850 (with tax) a night room, was small, dark, rundown and without any view (or rather the view of a wall. It also smelled of cigarette smoke… when I complained, I was told that they were about to renovate… and the only fix the hotel offered was to put an ozone machine in the room to improve the smell. My recommendation: do not book this hotel until they have renovated—or rather pick the Marriott across the street! This is NOT value for money.

We booked the hotel through AAA. The room provided at check-in was a handicap-accessable room, so other rooms may varry. This is an older building, and while the rooms have been updated, ours showed its age, with the little furniture present looking well worn. The bed was comfortable and the area was clean, just not fresh. The room was quiet, although we were facing the inside of the building. Parking...wow. I am used to paying for parking in the city. In this case, the garage that they referred me to was about a block away (no valet service) and the cost was $65 per night). Knowing what we do now, I would choose a different hotel next time in Chicago. Location was good, with easy access to restaurants and other city sights.
