Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Mattoon

This is basically a Super 8 with the Holiday Inn Express sign up. Has to be one of the oldest buildings in the franchise and we’ve stayed at many as Hilton Honors members. We’ve even stayed in one in England.

Basically the hotel is OLD. The room furniture is laughable, and worn and scratched. There are no USB outlets of any kind and the desk lights are much like you’d see in grandma’s house.

Our room was damp and smelled of a cleaner. We had just traveled 700 miles and just needed to go to bed. Ugh.
 The chairs in the breakfast area have worn vinyl and every chair was the same. Management is just saying “screw them, I’m not upgrading.”

We only had one night here, but had a very nice room. Very clean and comfortable. And the breakfast was great also, with many breakfast options.

DO NOT RESERVE A ROOM! They are a great big sham! We reserved a room for 5/23/26 not for the room itself but also for the amenities (the pool and hot tub) so our children could enjoy a nice evening after a long day of other activities. We got there after said long day excited about the pool. Well that didn't happen. Not even close. When we entered the building there is a sign saying said pool and hot tub are not in service. That being said there was no notice anywhere but there on the door. Not on their website, not anywhere. We tried to cancel our reservation but told we would have to pay full price (about $200) even if we did cancel. You see they have a policy saying that they require 48 hours notice to get out of the fees. Funny since they did not give us 48 hours notice letting us know they didn't have a pool. The only thing said was she would have to get back with us after talking to the manager the next day! So we tried calling corporate. They couldn't do a single thing for us because it is a franchise and they have no authority. We promptly left. Still waiting on a call and it has now been 24 hours. I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt but still haven't heard a darn thing. My kids were broken hearted and we had a 3 to 4 hour drive with them crying. I feel trapped by this. Almost if not a scam. BTW still waiting on them to acknowledge us. And would still like my $200 back. I have pictures and screen shots showing the lack of notice.
