Sleep Inn Elkhart

David was a hard worker in keeping the dining room area well supplied.

Driving through Elkhart, Indiana and staying one night, thought I'd get away cheap. Sleep Inn is a Choice Hotels brand, it has to be clean and maintained decently, right? Absolutely NOT. You get what you pay for, lesson learned, and what I paid for was disgusting. I was not asked for ID or my credit card at the front desk - security red flag there. Went up to our room in an elevator that could be featured in a Backrooms exhibit - yellow lighting, apparently to discourage flying insects from changing floors. We entered the room and the first thing my wife said to me was, "Do NOT touch that chair," which was a 70's vintage armchair, at one time upholstered with well-worn Sasquatch underwear, but now shabby and greasy. I heard her gasp when entering the bathroom and closing the pocket door. I asked what she'd noticed and she showed me the shower floor, patched with the half-heartedly rinsed dirt of a thousand barefoot flower children. Just gross. I picked up my phone and booked another hotel in my usual chain, located just around the corner, paying double the nightly rate for this hovel. Never again - lesson learned.

If I had the option of leaving zero stars, I would. No one at desk when we arrived. Person who finally checked us in did not speak clear English. Nor were we greeted. Did not advise us about the hours for the breakfast or where it would be. Was not even dressed like a hotel employee but more likely a maintenance prson.Room was very cold upon arrival. We were disappointed to find that there was no microwave in the room.Did not appreciate the 430 AM wake up call we had from another guest playing loud music. Isn't there such a thing of "quiet hours?" We were disappointed to find out that both the pool and hot tub were closed for maintenance. This is what got us to stay here, both a hot tub and a pool. Would have been nice if this information was posted online. Desk chair was extremely dirty. Hotel looked run down like it was in need of repair. We didn't even bother staying for breakfast. Not at all impressed. I guess what they say about if it's too good to be true, then probably is comes into effect here. We will not be back.
