Comfort Suites Laurel Lakes

I stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2025 for a family reunion. After the first night, I noticed that my white athletic socks were black on the bottom, indicating that the carpet was filthy. The next morning when I was leaving for a family event, I mentioned to the Front Desk Manager that my carpet was dirty. He said he would have it shampooed. I stated that I preferred that he wait until I check out in three days. Upon my return that evening, I found that the carpet had been cleaned, and my $650 Prada prescription sunglasses I left on the dresser, were missing. I brought this to the manager’s attention, who only said that his staff did not see or take my glasses. The next morning, I walked by the maintenance man who cleaned my room, and he refused to look at me. He seemed nervous. Never leave your valuables in your hotel room. I will never stay at this property again.

We recently took a trip to Laurel/College Park for a University of Maryland graduation. This hotel was clean and the staff was helpful and courteous. The location was great. There are many good restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores near by.

The good, the bad, and the ugly….let me preface this by saying I really do not want to write this review…but I review everywhere we stay and eat (hundreds of Trip Advisor contributions, more recently using Google). The good….the hotel has made some nice upgrades. Many aspects feel refreshed and updated. These include the bathrooms, flooring, paint, and common areas. It is very, very clean which is the most important thing. We stayed in Dec and again in Jan. Most platforms only allow a review once in a 30 day period so I wanted to complete both stays before providing feedback. The sales manager, Lance, was a joy to work with. I needed room blocks for our hockey team. He was very responsive, professional, and accommodating. 5 out of 5 stars for him. The front desk girls were very friendly. The gym is small and limited but gets the job done. I found the breakfast to be above average for free hotel eats. There is plenty of parking and lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. It is also just 10minutes to the ice rink which was the purpose of our trip. The bad….this is a smoke free hotel, yet the smoke was so bad on our floor that it stung my eyes when I was in the hall. It was weed smoke and cigarette smoke. We could smell weed in our room all night the first night. That I could deal with, but the next day when the cigarette smoke got so bad, I had to notify the front desk. The girl was very apologetic, offered to move us to another room, and said she would notify housekeeping to spray up there to neutralize it. I said I’d see if it improved and we’d let her know. When I went back up, it was much better. But, shortly after, the smoke had overtaken the floor again and we decided to move. That floor was fine. No issues. The ugly….I am just going to tell you what happened and let you draw your own conclusions. I know what I think. When we got home from this trip, my son’s brand new Birkenstocks that he had just received for Xmas did not make it home with us. There was no cart available when we left and we hand carried everything to our car. None of us could’ve carried loose shoes bc we were loaded down with bags, suitcases, and coolers. We know the shoes made it from the first room to the second room. We know the shoes did not make it from the second room to our car. I called the front desk and the lady checked lost and found but said there were no shoes in there. I emailed Lance who personally inspected both rooms we stayed in (the 2nd room had been unoccupied since we left and is also the last place we had the shoes). No luck. He also checked lost and found multiple times and spoke with housekeeping. I was hoping maybe the shoes were on a housekeeping cart and just had not been turned in yet. No luck there either. Now, here is the kicker…..I had a thought that maybe I mindlessly stuck the Birks in my workout bag…so I went to check….and guess what…my Brooks were also gone. I get grossed out by putting shoes in with clothes and always carry them in a plastic bag inside my gym bag. The plastic bag was in there but the shoes were not. I do not want to falsely accuse anyone, but I think the writing is on the wall…and it is very disappointing bc both times our group stayed at this hotel, we had a team dinner catered and fed all of the hotel staff that was on duty. In summary, this is a pretty nice hotel with some wonderful staff…and I’ve stayed here a few times…but, I’ll have to give serious pause for future consideration bc of the shoe and smoke situation.
