THE BRIARCLIFF MOTEL

Pros: fairly clean room, self check in, beds were fine. Cons: shower head was disgusting, no place to put your toiletry bag in the bathroom, no place to put your toiletries in shower, half shower wall means water all over floor, no fan in bathroom so mirror completely fogs, walls are very thin, blinds only on 2 of the 4 windows in the room.

What an overpriced disappointment. I had high hopes that the connection with the Red Lion Inn down the road might be a winning combination. Not so. I have ONE positive comment, the beds were comfortable. As a dog owner, it has been my experience that a pet “friendly” hotel makes it clear on the website that some of the rooms are pet/dog friedly, as opposed to all. I didn’t think to ask, so shame on me. The room smelled like wet dog. Like a lot of wet dogs that had spent many nights on the carpet. The old wall to wall carpet was clearly the source of the issue, and we were hopeful that keeping the windows open from our arrival through our departure might help the problem. Not a chance. Had it not been 11pm when we returned from Tanglewood and not had a 3 hour drive home, we would have left. A note to the owners of the Red Lion Inn, invest in this property, pull up the wall to wall carpets and install floor tiles that don’t hold odor, can handle dog traffic and accidents. Maybe update the tiles in the bathroom while you’re at it- it’s dirty and moldy.

You hear about the old motels that someone fixes up and it’s incredible? Yeah i think that was their intention. I don’t know if the smell was due to chemicals or if my roommate insists it was mildew. It was a clean safe bed the bare minimum is supplied.
