We were extremely pleased with our accommodations at Aunt Clara’s cottage which is a part of the Devereaux holdings- the only place that offers a room with 2 beds— both were queens, very comfortable and lots of pillows! It is also where the guests come for breakfast so very convenient if you book a room in the cottage! There was one other couple there at the same time as us and we never heard them enter or leave.. but we were all “seniors” so not a rowdy group!! Coffee was available at 6 am and a great breakfast at 8:30! No complaints — kudos to your welcoming staff and resident chef!! We felt like “family” and can’t wait to return !! But in cooler weather!! (The a/c and ceiling fan were great!).

Return trip after four years. Still our favorite place to unwind, relax and enjoy southern hospitality. Ron and Eleanor are great hosts. Lillian prepared gourmet breakfasts each morning (even a 6:30 breakfast on our last day so we could depart early with full stomachs). Enjoyed meeting and dining with fellow travelers. Enjoyed leisurely days and evenings on the front porch. We chose Aunt Clara's cottage again; very comfortable, quiet, and convenient as breakfast for all guests is served there. Natchez is a friendly town with many historic attractions and great restaurants. Beautiful sunset views across the Mississippi River from the city's bluffs.

Overall this is a very nice property with some lovely room options. The location to downtown was good, especially as there's ample parking in Natchez. The host and his wife were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast in the smaller property down the street was homemade and delicious, and I especially enjoyed the opportunity to visit with other guests while eating. The reason for the rating of 3 is that the Devereaux Shields House is actually 3 different houses, which I don't think is made clear in the reservation process (I booked on aaa.com). The lovely house pictured in the ads is the main house, where I thought I would be staying. My room, however, was in the much plainer, less well appointed house next door. The room was fine, with a comfy bed and a nicely appointed bathroom, but I had been looking forward to the camaraderie of other B&B guests, and my house was mostly empty. In addition, there's a kitchen in the house but nothing to allow for making coffee or tea, and no microwave or plastic/paperware for eating takeout food that I'd brought back. So it wasn't quite the cozy stay I was looking forward to, which was disappointing.
