Not even sure where to start when we went into the room to begin with half the lights didn’t work. I’ll post pictures on the room in general was somewhat OK. It want the best didn’t expect much but didn’t appreciate the fire alarm going off between 4 to 5 AM on Sunday morning being jolted out of bed Front desk never called never did anything. Never explained anything We had to call the front desk and the guy was super rude and half asleep and then had to ask when we got up the next morning it was turned off, went off again. Another hour later continually went off. I guess somebody was smoking in the room went to the bathroom when I was woken up and found this nice little cockroach on the wall so I’ve been trying to call the health department regarding the matter I would not recommend staying definitely didn’t eat breakfast that morning

We recently made a quick trip to the St. Louis area for shopping. I have an old friend who lives in Alton, so I decided to stay there to visit and then head out for our shopping the next day. In searching hotels online, most of the hotels in the Alton area raised their rates for the weekend. I'm not sure why - the hotel didn't seem all that busy and I didn't see any events going on that weekend. But I've stayed at Comfort Inns before, and the price was right, so we decided to go with that. While the location advertises "near I-255," that's not exactly accurate. It's about 5 miles off the highway, but next to IL-3. That said, it is relatively close to downtown Alton, and the area isn't bad. The hotel is tucked back off of College Avenue, and the turns to get there aren't clearly marked. The hotel itself is kind of tired-looking, an older building with fading paint. The interior is about the same, although they have been repainting around the lobby and first floor. Carpets in the hallways are worn and a bit dingy - but I couldn't tell if it was dirty. There were no bad smells, however. The check-in went smoothly, and we got a room on the second floor. As noted, the pool has been closed for some time. There's only one elevator, and while older, it worked OK. The room was typical for this class hotel, but a little better than I expected based on the rest of the hotel. The bedding and linens seemed new and were clean. And the bed itself was quite comfortable. The TV worked fine, but the remote was not responsive. Our room had a refrigerator and microwave, which we didn't use but was a nice touch. Most of the other furnishings were older, but in decent shape. The bathroom was older as well. The sink stopper was hard to use and the bathtub showed some wear. But it was sufficient for the night. We didn't have any problem with noise either from the outside or within the hotel. Breakfast was the typical hot offerings. There was a waffle maker, with both regular and flavored waffle offerings. We did have a wait for the waffle makers, but not too bad. While they had syrup, there was no butter for the waffles or toast. They offered the typical hotel eggs, sausage, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. Everything was clean and well stocked. Coffee was OK, and restocked regularly as well. There was adequate seating space in the breakfast area - but as I said, it wasn't really crowded. The hotel itself is a bit below average for my tastes, but the room (and particularly the bedding) was a bit above average. So on balance, the Comfort Inn Alton comes out as a solid average for its class. Some things could be better, but nothing was so bad that I would recommend against it. Its fine for a night or two, and particularly if you are on a budget.

I recently stayed at the Alton comfort inn, and having stayed at other hotels in Alton this definitely was the best hotel experience I've ever had. The room was comfortable, with amazingly helpful and friendly staff. The staff went out of their way to ensure accommodations were met around the clock. I would definitely stay here again in the future where the staff treat you as if you were part of their family. It is nice to be able to bring my dog with me to stay at a pet friendly hotel. I recommend this hotel to everyone including my own family and friends.
