RODEWAY INN HARDIN

A good sleep after a long drive. Otherwise nothing to recommend the place.

We made the mistake of prepaying for a room before seeing it. Huge mistake. The second we walked in, we knew we weren't staying: overwhelming body odor smell, dirty, run-down room. The front desk guy who, before we'd said a single word, already had a fresh key card in hand and held it out to us, like this exact scenario happens on repeat. We asked for a refund. He said yes, but wanted us to check a second room first. We did. Same smell, same grime, just missing the filthy area rug from room one. Bonus ambiance on that side of the property: shirtless, shoeless guests smoking outside. We told him we were done and asked about our refund timeline. Suddenly the story changed. Now he would only refund the pet fee, and a full refund would need manager approval which he said was not likely. All of this happened in under five minutes. We left immediately and called Expedia from the road. They rang the hotel while we waited; the front desk claimed they were "too busy" and kept putting Expedia on hold repeatedly. We were told to expect an update within 24 hours. We drove 1.5 hours and stayed at a Ramada Inn in WY instead. Two days later, still no word from Expedia and now a charge from this hotel on our card. We called again. This time the hotel told Expedia two flat-out lies: that my husband had stayed the night, and that he was supposedly on another call with them at that exact moment. Neither of us had called the hotel before or after our reservation - ever. Expedia's first offer? $25 in travel credit toward a $117 charge for a room we didn't use. Unacceptable. We escalated to an Expedia manager, who called the hotel and got the same fabricated story. After a long back-and-forth, he finally agreed to compensate us for the full amount in Expedia points. Bottom line: this hotel is filthy, with at least one employee who seemed trained to stall refunds, and willing to lie outright to a third party to keep your money. Book anywhere else.

Dirty. That's the first thing that comes to mind. The coffee pot in the room still had an old filter in it. A big long black hair in the bathtub. Our door had a huge gap under it. Hornets were infesting our window and front door, so they were getting into our room via under the door and cracks in the window ledges. When we told the guy who checked us in, he brought a can of bug spray and sprayed our window and door, but no spray was coming out. My husband had to point out to him that the can was empty!!! The guy had to go to the local hardware store to buy more. I don't think he understood good English, anyway. The floor in the room was so filthy that our slippers were black on the soles the next morning. As far as the continental breakfast....DON'T.
