Hotel Eklund

We had been on the road all day and decided at the last minute to stay at this hotel. We stayed in the Eklund Suite and it was lovely - historically quaint and very clean. We ate dinner at the restaurant (tip: call for a reservation) which was delicious! I had the meatloaf and my husband enjoyed the prime rib and strawberry rhubarb pie. Upon check-in we were told by the desk clerk there would be coffee and free breakfast in the dining room the next morning, 6:30-8:30. There were also two signs posted stating such. We were looking forward to a good breakfast, at least coffee as there was not a coffee maker in our room, before continuing our trip the next morning. At 6:30 we went downstairs to breakfast and everything was closed up! Thinking an employee might just be late for work, we waited an hour. Still no breakfast, no coffee and no one working the front desk to tend to guest services. We were sorely disappointed. I would have rated this quaint hotel a 4, but we did not receive full service. Despite that, if we travel through Clayton again, we will definitely stay here because of the comfortable, clean room and friendly staff.

Love this historic hotel! It’s like a museum and hotel. Wonderful staff and food too. We sometimes purposely route our trip through Clayton just to stay here.

Were recommended to stay here by a friend on our way back to TX. Quiet little boutique hotel, was very clean and cozy. Very comfortable beds, pillows, sheets. Clean hot shower with good water pressure 👍 Had dinner at the restaurant, best meatloaf I've had out with yummy mashed potatoes and grilled veggies! Breakfast was a little unorganized but there was one sweet girl working so she did the best she could. I think they should have put the coffee out for everyone instead of having to ask each time for her to come out of the kitchen, but small deal! All in all a nice stay for out of the way 😉
