Hilton Garden Inn Clifton Park NY

We stay at HGIs 50-60 times a year, and based on our phone conversations with the staff had pretty high expectations, especially for the breakfast. The pros: Comfortable rooms. Nice area. Friendly staff. Head and shoulders above the ones closer to Albany. Dinner was fine. The hotel itself sits right next to other hotels, and the dog "area" is teeny, so be prepared. Comfortable lobby and seating area. The cons: Two carts available for the entire hotel - one of those dreadful half size carts with bars at the bottom so duffel bags and anything soft drag on the floor, and then a standard cart you have to ask for because they keep it locked up! There should at least be four carts for a hotel this size. The breakfast was much touted by the staff as being much better than the average HGI breakfast, but I have to demur. We got there about 30 minutes after breakfast started and the oatmeal isn't even real or fresh - it's packets, which you wet with water from a cannister of lukewarm water next to it. There's no hot milk, though perhaps we could have gotten some if we'd asked. The fruit was a little older than I'd have liked, especially at the price. There were no cold cuts or cheeses, although the sausages were quite good. My wife had a made to order omelet she said was okay though pretty dry, and full of bacon bits instead of pieces of bacon, an unwelcome surprise. (In fairness they might have been real bacon chopped up and left in the fridge overnight, or frozen.) As always, the room was dark, and there was one grab bar for the shower, nothing for the tub. All in all, we'd stay here because it's nice to drive a long way and then just eat at the restaurant, but the hotel has a bit of work to do!

This is a great hotel with exceptional service. Clean, updated and in a location with lots of food and shopping options. Did not get to try the on site dining (30 Park) but it’s available with a nice menu. Will definitely be back next year.

The rooms on floors 3-5 were newly renovated which was nice. When we were there, they were in the mist of renovating the lobby and 2nd floor. The only complaint I have was the bed. It was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. And the pillows were the worst. No extra blankets and pillows in the room either.
