Homewood Suites by Hilton Syracuse/Liverpool

The mattresses were heavenly. I wish I had one at home! Sadly, ours was only a one-night stay this time, but we’ll be back. We loved the convenience of the first-floor unit, which was only a few steps from where our vehicle was parked. It was very easy to get in and out, especially with our bags upon arrival and departure. The outer door was secured with the room key, allaying any security concerns. The suite was newly renovated, and the housekeeping was immaculate. The extra towels and pillow we requested were there upon our arrival, so no need to call housekeeping to follow up. Everything smelled fresh and clean. Excellent! The unit is spacious and well laid out, with the two bedrooms separated by the living room/kitchen area. The kitchen includes an apartment-sized refrigerator, microwave, 2-burner electric cooktop, and dishwasher. There is a coffeemaker on the counter and a toaster tucked away. You’ll find various cutlery, plates, and some cookware. The small dining table seats two, which is a little small considering there is bedding for at least six. However, there is also the possibility of eating in the living area in front of the television. There is also a small laundry room as you enter, which would be convenient for extended stays. Also, in the entrance hallway, there are three wall hooks, which I imagine could be convenient for hanging outwear, et cetera. All these features make it a standout for longer stays. My husband and I had the king-bedded room with an ensuite bath, and our grandson had the bedroom with two queen beds and an ensuite bath. As I mentioned, all the beds are amazingly comfortable, with convenient bedside tables and embedded outlets. There is a desk with additional plugs and USB outlets, dresser storage and a huge flat screen TV. In fact, there were three large televisions in all, though our short stay didn’t allow us time for viewing them. The closet/storage area has a new design with cubbies and an ironing board. It looks like some hanging space was intended but not installed. There were extra pillows and a blanket in this area, which were great so I could bring them out to use on the couch and enjoy my cozy early morning routine while my husband caught up on his sleep after a long day of driving. Both baths are the split type, the sink outside the room with the bath/shower and toilet. I find this impractical for our needs because whenever someone gets up to use the sink, it disturbs the other person in the room. Obviously, I must be in the minority because all the large chains seem to favor these. This area is well lit and has some storage. The tub is equipped with a solid safety bar, which is a nice feature as we are older. The toiletries include good quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, and lotion from Crabtree and Evelyn in full-sized bottles. The shower has excellent pressure, and the towels are fluffy and soft. I did find the bathroom fan in the toilet area was a bit noisy. The Toto toilets are a nice upgrade! They are a few “easy” additions that would be welcomed: a large magnifying mirror for shaving or make-up; a small trash can in the toilet area of each bathroom; a hanging rod in the master bedroom closet area, and a blow dryer in each bathroom. (We only had one to share.) For breakfast, there were bagels, muffins, bread, oatmeal, fresh fruit, make-your-own waffle, and a couple of hot entrees. We usually forego these free breakfasts, but it was just an easy walk across the driveway that we couldn’t resist. All in all, it was a very comfortable stay in a beautifully upgraded unit. I am a Hilton diamond member and asked about a late checkout at the front desk for business reasons and the person told me there was no policy for late checkout! When I called Hilton to double check that they said that was wrong and I should have been given the late checkout. On top of that when I questioned the policy with her, since I travel a lot and knew more then she did relative to Hilton, that she said I was rude when I was simply questioning a policy I knew was not correct. The hotel never contacted me after I complained so they are all badly trained about hiltons policies. Was never acknowledged as a Hilton member so that also added to the poor service.
