I first stayed at this hotel in 2013, and it was nothing short of wonderful. Thirteen years later, it was my default choice when booking a New York trip for my family's first ever visit to the city. What a massive mistake. Something has gone seriously wrong with this once-amazing property. The issues began before we even arrived. I emailed several inquiries and reservation amendments, none of which received a reply until I sent multiple follow-ups. Then, the day before arrival, I received an email stating my first-night charge was declined and our entire 6 night booking would be canceled by noon the next day if not settled. I immediately authorized the charge with Amex, replied to the hotel asking them to re-run it, and asked for confirmation. True to form, the hotel ignored my email and my follow-up. I had to call the morning of our arrival to fix it, adding completely unnecessary stress to our trip. We checked in and went to our "NoMo Balcony Suite" on the penthouse floor, which cost over $1,000 per night. The nightmare truly began when we opened the door. We were hit by an overpowering, awful smell of cat urine and mold. I immediately called reception and was told, "There is nothing we can do tonight, we have no other rooms, we will deal with it tomorrow." Hoping to get some fresh air, I went to open the balcony door. To my disbelief, the door was bolted shut to the frame. I called reception back, and they told me, "Yes, we’ve had maintenance issues, so we had to block the exit to the balcony." They openly admitted other guests had complained about this. I paid premium rates for a room explicitly marketed and pictured as a balcony suite, only to find the balcony completely inaccessible. It was 11 PM, and with no alternative rooms offered, we decided to just sleep and find a new hotel the next day. But it got worse. As my two teenage boys got into the sofa bed, they noticed the sheets and adjacent table were covered in a strange grain/powder. I patted the sheets and confirmed they were filthy. At this point, I had enough. I went down to the lobby and demanded a manager come up to see and smell the room. Fortunately, the shift had changed, and the night manager, Lucas Aponte, was now on duty. Unlike his dismissive predecessor, Lucas was empathetic, helpful, and genuinely caring. Lucas worked magic. He found us a new room (a downgrade to the 3rd floor, but we weren't being picky at that point), lowered our nightly rate to reflect the downgrade, and gave us drink coupons. Because of the clean replacement room, and entirely thanks to Lucas's excellent service, we decided to stay for the remainder of our trip. Bottom line: This hotel suffers from poor management, terrible maintenance, and borderline false advertising regarding its rooms. If it weren't for Lucas saving the night, we would have walked out. We will not be returning.

Great location. Room was fairly spare, but had a nice view. No coffee in the room, but complimentary coffee in the lobby. Had no cream or milk, though, so had to go to the cafe bar downstairs to get it. Front desk staff not particularly friendly. I wish they'd open a rooftop terrace for the views. Restaurant was pretty. Cost less than many hotels in the area.

This hotel was a huge letdown from start to finish. The service is simply terrible, especially at check-in, where the staff were unhelpful and unfriendly. Unfortunately, the same attitude could be found throughout the entire property, including every restaurant we visited. No matter what we asked for, the answer always seemed to be “no.” It almost felt as if the staff were determined to make our stay as unpleasant as possible. After arriving exhausted from a long international flight, there was absolutely no effort made to welcome us. No flexibility, no consideration, and no sense of hospitality. The rooms are very average and clearly in need of refurbishment. The aluminum fixtures look old, the headboards are damaged, and some of the curtains are torn. The air conditioning barely works, making the room uncomfortable. There is no coffee machine and not even complimentary water in the room, which is surprising for a hotel of this standard. The restaurants are also disappointing: neither comfortable nor welcoming, with service that matches the poor experience elsewhere in the hotel. What disappointed us the most was the lack of hospitality. A beautiful property can never compensate for staff who make guests feel unwelcome. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed, and we would not recommend this hotel.
