Hampton Inn Elmira/Horseheads

I am a Hilton Gold member and have been loyal to the Hilton brand for years. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed the last few times I have stayed with Hilton and this time may be the state that broke the camel’s back. I had tried to book a hotel in Watkins Glen for a 5 day trip to the speedway, but all the hotels were booked so Elmira was the closest. Being a Hilton fan, I booked the “best” Hilton brand hotel available in the area. Check in was fine. No problem. First night was ok, however, the next morning while in the shower I used up all the soap that was in the dispenser. Obviously, house keeping did not refill the dispenser after the previous guest left. I got back to the room after a long day at the track to take a shower before dinner. The dispenser still hadn’t been refilled and my room hadn’t been cleaned. I had to use shampoo to clean myself. They didn’t clean my room for 3 days until I went to the front desk again tired from a long hot day and requested someone please refill the soap dispenser or give me a bar of soap. The manager at the front desk said she would be up to do it herself since housekeeping was closed at 8 pm. She came up to my room, but didn’t have the key to the dispenser so she had to go back downstairs to retrieve it. After about an hour of back and forth she finally got it refilled. When asked why my room hadn’t been attended to in 3 days she said housekeeping was on a schedule and I must have missed them. I told her I was out of my room by 7:30 am each morning and they had ample opportunity to clean and the dispenser should have been checked and refilled before the room was rented out. I am disappointed that the Hilton brand has dropped their standards to nothing more than a Holiday Inn or Super 8. I realize Hampton Inn isn’t their top tier property, but I am experiencing poor quality standards and lack of accountability in properties of all levels lately. We will be reevaluating our loyalty programs from now on

The location was fine. The workers were not that friendly or knowledge about the area. Bobbi Sue, a cleaning lady, was very nice and did help us out. The pool was closed for cleaning on a weekend but then was not clean when it was opened back up. The food was good but seemed very unattended.

The experience is exactly what I expected, which is why I chose the Hampton Inn. The room was clean and spacious, breakfast had plenty of options, parking and WiFi were included. 24-hour coffee was good to have, and I liked having a refrigerator and microwave. The staff was friendly too, which I really appreciated, having traveled to Elmira during a deep freeze for a sad occasion. I could not find a safe in my room; that would have been good for my laptop.
