Hilton Garden Inn Stony Brook

I would like to recognize Lauren at the Hilton Stony Brook for her exceptional customer service. From the moment I arrived, she was professional, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to my needs. She went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable, handling every interaction with patience, kindness, and a positive attitude. As a front desk agent myself, I understand the demands of the hospitality industry and the importance of creating a memorable guest experience. Lauren exemplifies what outstanding customer service should look like. Her attention to detail, willingness to go the extra mile, and sincere care for guests did not go unnoticed. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Stony Brook from Sunday, April 26 through Friday, May 1, and overall it was a mixed experience. The biggest issue was that the hot tub was not working for the entire stay. That was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel, since I have back issues and specifically look for that amenity. If something like that is out of service, it should be clearly communicated at booking or at check-in so guests can make an informed decision. There were also multiple noise issues. On my first night, there was a loud gathering at the lobby bar, which is fine, but it turned into a late-night argument right outside my room. The same thing happened again on my last night. It made it difficult to relax or sleep and didn’t feel like things were being monitored as well as they should have been. The designated smoking pavilion was also an issue. On Thursday night, a group was gathered there with alcohol and smoking marijuana, turning it into more of a hangout than a designated smoking area. More concerning, during the day on Tuesday, I went to use the pavilion and another guest began smoking marijuana there while I was present. While I understand laws have changed, this is clearly marked as a cigarette smoking area, and guests should be able to use it for its intended purpose without being exposed to other substances. Clearer guidelines and enforcement would make this space more usable. It made the space uncomfortable to use for its intended purpose. There were a couple of minor room issues. The refrigerator did not stay cold enough, which caused some of my food to spoil during a multi-day stay. The water temperature also didn’t get as hot as expected. Neither of these were dealbreakers, but they’re worth noting. As a Hilton Honors member, I also did not receive the complimentary bottled water that’s typically included, which was a noticeable miss. The free coffee in the lobby in the morning was good, but there were times it wasn’t ready when it was supposed to be (around 6:00 a.m.), which was inconvenient. On the positive side, the hotel and room were clean, the pool and fitness area appeared clean and well maintained, and the staff was friendly and helpful when I interacted with them. Overall, this could have been a much better stay with clearer communication and better oversight.
