Corona Hotel New York - LaGuardia Airport

Generally not super picky about hotels, but this wasn’t a pleasant experience. The hotel reeks of very strong cleaning products, had to air out of the room to get it to not smell. The air conditioner seemed to have scent in it and was blowing out strong smelling air. People smoke in the hallways and rooms and cigarette ash was all over the stairs. Doors slam very loudly. If you stay here, ask for a room in the back as it’s right under the 7 train and you’ll hear it all night. The room key also kept getting deactivated and we had to get the front desk staff to reset them almost every time we returned to the room. Room was clean though.

As per usual, summer storms cancelled an enormous amount of flights, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at LGA. I tried (and failed) to book a one way car to get to my destination, and hotels near LGA were in short and expensive supply. There was one very close to the airport with terrible reviews on booking.com but Corona Hotel had a decent price tag and decent reviews....on booking.com. Had I checked here, I would have run the other way. The Good: cheap enough for one night, based on prices around LGA for that night. The desk clerk was friendly and efficient. There is an elevator to the rooms and the lobby. The room appeared clean. The Bad: not as close to LGA as I would have liked - either a 15 minute cab ride costing more money, or a 30 min bus and subway ride. The Ugly: I had a non-smoking room but the air conditioner cycled through stale air that had an undercurrent of old smoke and other nasty smells. The room was fairly quiet with earplugs but a harsh artificial light beamed through the curtains and made it hard to sleep. Even if that was not the case, the bed was hideously uncomfortable and the pillows felt like they were stuffed with balled up pieces of material. I got one and a half hours of sleep because I finally passed out from exhaustion at 4:30am and had to be up at 6:00am. The general feel of the hotel was seedy and sketchy and the area it is in is much the same. I could not get out of there fast enough the next morning. Summary: do not stay here, even if it is cheap. You will not sleep a wink and you will leave feeling like you are covered with a thin film of grime - even though the rooms look clean.

Me and my partner came to stay here and we will not again, due to are other hotel being cancelled for our trip we had to last minute booking for this hotel. There was a smashed tile in our shower, what seems to be a suspicious substance on our ceiling and curtains. Our room key did not work once while we were here for a whole week, staff didn’t help with this resulted in us having to get cleaners attention for them to open it for us and even they struggled. Was not welcomed by front desk. Very loud hotel till early hours of parties and other activities every night we have been here this has happened. The room was not very clean. Holes in duvet that look like fag burns. Never been someone to be rude or complain however this place is something else. I would definitely not bring children here or come here again.
