Residence Inn by Marriott Rochester West/Greece

This review is for their one-bedroom suite: Pros: - Ample parking (although not much shade) - Comfortable bed - Separate area with the sink & mirror outside the bathroom with the shower & toilet - Full-size fridge and decently stocked pots/pans/utensils/tools in the kitchen - Lots of open space in the living area - Lots of electrical outlets in the living/dining area - Slow-close cabinet doors (but not drawers) - Covered peephole - Blackout curtains plus translucent/frosted inner blinds - Even in a non-accessible room, the shower was a raised walk-in and didn't have any water leaking when opening the glass door - Lactose free milk boxes at breakfast - Convenient location just off Ridge Rd and 390 but without any traffic noise Middling: - Hot but limited breakfast - scrambled eggs, a meat (bacon, sausage, etc.) and something else hot (french toast, frittata, waffle, etc.), plus oatmeal + toppings, whole fruit (apple, banana, orange), flavored yogurt, and a few breads/bagels/muffins - There's only one elevator, and it's down some hallways from the reception, so it's a bit of a walk for folks with mobility issues. - Mostly clean, but there were some stray hairs in the living area, one of the body towels had brown spots, and there was what looked like mildew in the shower - The showerhead didn't have great pressure/outflow but wasn't terrible - There were cookies when we checked in but then didn't see them again for the next week, which was a bit of a tease - Decent storage throughout the suite overall, although no dressers (just a small drawer in each bedside table) in the bedroom Cons: - The TVs in both the bedroom and living room randomly turned on at 4am one night, and when we mentioned it at reception in the morning, the staff didn't even apologize, nevermind ask for our room number to make a note on our account or have someone look into it. She said she didn't know why they would do that like she didn't believe us and told us to notify them if it happened again (which we made sure it wouldn't by unplugging the TVs every night). She also said no one else had reported that issue, although we knew of at least two other rooms who had. - Two afternoons there was gas-powered tilling happening outside our window that sounded like a jackhammer, just as we were trying to put our baby down for a nap and continuing for almost 2 hours the first day. While we realize that facility upgrades need to happen sometime and that the middle of the day is the best time for a hotel to do them, we're used to getting a notification in advance about work that could cause such significant noise disruption during a stay. If we'd known, we could have gone elsewhere for the nap, but it was too late at that point. - Constant humming sound in the bedroom that wasn't white noise (it sort of sounded like a helicopter circling overhead but not as loud) drove us crazy - Very few electrical outlets in the bedroom - only 2 regular + 2 original USB (not USB-C) outlets on the alarm clock. You can probably access another one where the phone is plugged in on the other side of the bed, but that's still not a lot if you have multiple folks with electronic devices in the bedroom. - The shower drain is a cool-looking long rectangle of metal, but the showerhead drips on it after the water is shut off, which can be annoying for folks in the bedroom. - The living area and bedroom are on one thermostat, so if you have folks staying in both spaces, they have to want the same temperature. - The fitted sheet kept coming off of the mattress overnight while (just) sleeping, and the sheets made a bit of crinkly noise when moved and weren't very soft. We would consider staying here again if it weren't for the first few points under the Cons. In particular, how reception treated us after I lost half a night's rest after being unable to get back to sleep after waking up to a TV blasting was surprising and frustrating. We understand that tech glitches happen, but I prefer to stay in a place that tries to make it right (or at least pretends to care).

Knowing that there would be 5 of us needing some place to stay for several days in the Rochester area, we originally were going to rent a house, but you can't cancel your reservation without losing money, so we opted for a hotel with good amenities. The Residence Inn was a great choice! It had gluten free options for breakfast and full-sized fridges in the kitchen to store food in the fridge and freezer. The suites were spacious and there was a very nice pool and hot tub available plus an excellent small fitness room. It's conveniently located and the staff is particularly friendly and helpful. I was very impressed and we will definitely stay at a Residence Inn again, if need be as this one in Greece left us with a very good feeling.

As a frequent business traveler, I’ve stayed at dozens of extended-stay properties across the country, and I hold Marriott-branded hotels to a higher standard. This stay at the Residence Inn Rochester West/Greece fell so far short of that standard that we were forced to check out early after a sleepless night. The Room – An Immediate Red Flag Upon entering our room, it was clear that housekeeping had either skipped this unit entirely or performed a cleanup so cursory it bordered on negligent. The toilet had not been flushed from the previous guest, and what appeared to be a cleaning bottle with some kind of seal or cap was sitting on top of the toilet — giving the impression of a “cleaned” room that simply wasn’t. Toothpaste smears were visible on the wall near the sink, making it obvious the bathroom had not received even a basic wipe-down. The Mattress – A Business Traveler’s Nightmare The mattress was the final straw. It was rock hard, and you could both feel and hear the internal springs with every movement. For a business traveler who needs quality rest to perform the next day, this was completely unacceptable. This isn’t a matter of personal preference — the mattress was objectively worn out and well past its useful life. Management’s Response – Indifference at Its Finest We did the right thing and reported every issue to the front desk. What followed was the most frustrating part of the entire experience — absolutely nothing was done to resolve our concerns. No room change was offered, no meaningful acknowledgment, no follow-through. We were left with no option but to check out rather than endure another night on a broken mattress in an uncleaned room. The Bottom Line A Residence Inn is marketed toward business travelers who need a clean, comfortable, functional environment. This property delivered none of that. Between the unsanitary conditions upon check-in and the complete failure of management to make things right, I cannot recommend this location. I would strongly encourage Marriott corporate to conduct a quality audit of this property.
