Upon booking online I was given the option to pay for parking, which I did. When I checked in and asked about parking, I was told it was to the side of the hotel. I was very apprehensive to see that it was not underground parking and let them know how worried I was about that. They assured me that there were cameras. I reluctantly parked my car in a spot that looks to have good camera coverage. After checking out we went to our car to discover that a brick had been thrown at it 3 times and busted through my back window, also damaging the rear of my vehicle-nothing was taken from my vehicle. I went back into the hotel to tell the manager who told me he had NEVER seen that happen and was told by another employee and also confirmed later by the general manager that they have a security person out there. The manager walked out there and showed me the 2 cameras pointing at my vehicle but said he was not able to view them and that the general manager, Ziggy Lopuszynski, would have to view them the next day.
I filed the police report online but was told that I needed to also have a phone conversation with an officer, who called me shortly after. Upon speaking with the officer and explaining where I was parked, what hotel, etc. the officer told me that in dealing with this hotel before they probably will not supply me with any footage and that while they don’t know who did it for sure, that there is a mental health facility nearby.
I followed up with the general manager, Ziggy Lopuszynski, the next day. Ziggy was incredibly rude. Would not let me speak without interrupting me, and telling me to let him speak while I was explaining what happened. He got back to me the next day after reviewing the footage, and told me he can not see anything, even though the other manager walked out there with me and pointed out the 2 cameras that pointed at my vehicle. He mentioned a man then on camera, when I questioned him further he said no, there was no man. He told me he suspected they threw it over the fence behind my vehicle. I asked how they would have thrown the brick from over the fence, went around and grabbed it, and done this 2 more times. He stated that there was bricks behind the fence which has a green covering over it that makes it so you cannot see in. Interesting that he knew that since I was told by the other manager that he had never before seen this happen. So 3 bricks were thrown over a fence, as he suspects, one crashed through my window, security guard never heard or saw it and no cameras caught anything on film even though there were 2 pointing at my vehicle. I told him what the police department said about how they are notorious for not having video, and Ziggy told me that he did not believe me, that they would not say that, and that he would be verifying that with them, which I truly hope he does.
This location is not safe and they do not take the appropriate measures that they say are being taken to keep it protected. If something happens to your vehicle, do not expect Ziggy to be helpful. He actually made a comment stating that they kept my vehicle safe and when questioning him further he said, well not YOUR vehicle.
This man’s lack of compassion, disrespectful and down right rude behavior is not what you would expect to receive from the general manager of a hotel.
I absolutely would not recommend this hotel. There were also people walking through the lobby and going through the trash cans that I would not have expected to be allowed to do so.
I have stayed many times at The Benson Hotel and highly recommend that hotel.

This is a great hotel Tatiana at the front desk was so thankful and helpful. It is right next to where the Portland Trailblazers play so we’re near the NBA team and everybody in Portland is really chill and laid-back. This is a great hotel and it’s very comfortable bed the very spacious room and there’s a restaurant in Barr that is delicious on site

The hotel is a short walk from the Convention Center and the Convention Center MAX station once one knows the way. When traveling from the airport MAX station to the Convention Center MAX station, go to the back of the light rail train and head left up NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd for three blocks to NE Wasco St. Take a left for two blocks and then a right on NE 2nd Ave. for two blocks to the hotel. The room I was in was fine. The rooms have a microwave and mini-fridge. I had a top floor room facing north, so I could see Mount St. Helens when the sky was clear. The exercise room has equipment including free weights. There is a Safeway store by the Lloyd Center, not too far away, to purchase groceries. There are two things not listed on the hotel's website; bicycles (4) and laundry facility (1). The bicycles are nothing great (one speed, coaster brake), except for being free for two hours per day. Unfortunately the bikes were not available until 9:30-10:00 in the morning. It's a bit laughable that the hotel will start charging $25 per hour for use of the bikes beyond two hours per day; it would be better to pay for a rental of a better bike elsewhere if one wants to ride for more than two hours. The laundry facility on the top floor has two washing machines and four dryers. One washing machine wasn't working during my stay, causing bottlenecks for people wanting to do laundry. Flexible terms for IHG One Rewards members for late checkout (up to two hours) and luggage storage for a few hours.
