Not much attention to detail. Lots of "little things" add up to an overall feeling of low-end mediocrity. Not dirty, but definitely not clean to normal Hampton Inn standards. The room was on the modern side, but you can tell corners were cut wherever possible.
The air handling system is awful. We smelled EVERYTHING. Diesel fuel from the trucks outside, people smoking, and breakfast preparation. There was a blinking LED light in the A/C unit vents that we noticed as soon as the lights went out, because the room was transformed into some kind of flashing DISCO.
The door to the room did not sit properly in the frame, so there was about an inch of gap in some spots, which really stood out as strange and unsafe at night when the light shone through.
It wasn't the worst, but we'd never stay there again. (Warning...if you're looking for another Hampton Inn in the general area, stay away from the one in Christiana/Wilmington, as that was easily the worst Hampton Inn location we have ever been to.)
Front desk guy was nice enough. We didn't stay for breakfast.

We often stay at Hampton Inn when traveling, as they generally offer clean and well-maintained hotels. A week earlier, we stayed in an outstanding Hampton Inn in Salisbury, MD. Our experience at this Swedesboro Hampton Inn fell far short of what we have come to expect as the norm for Hampton facilities. The recent stays in two Hamptons offered a real contrast.
The facility simply appeared "worn," as though it had not experienced a thorough cleaning in some time. Our room offered a lovely view of the pool area and the overflowing garbage dumpsters with concealing gates propped wide open. Carpets in need of vacuuming, surfaces in the elevator, and elsewhere need to be wiped down, and a shower in our room (229) with pink mildew, hair, and dirt marks did not seem a typical Hampton experience.
The one true highlight was the lovely woman (Sheleme?) who worked in the breakfast area. She had a bright, cheery greeting and was very helpful. I watched her kindly assist a struggling elderly woman with a walker carry her food to where she was to eat. The breakfast area was very clean and well-kept.
It is too bad that the rest of the facility was not maintained with the same care as the breakfast area.
