HAMPTON INN PITTSBURGH-UNIVERS

We made a reservation in June for a November stay and our reservation was cancelled by the hotel a month later with no explanation. When I called to find out what happened I was told the hotel had been sold and they were cancelling all reservations. It would have been helpful to put this on their website or at least provide some information as to why they abruptly cancelled our reservation in an email.

Lacks the quality and cleanliness you expect from a Hampton Inn. The room smelled musty, thankfully the air conditioning works and stays on consistently. The room was ok, showing its age and a little beat up. The dead cherry stem on the floor was gross. Breakfast was typical but a very tiny room, had a line just to get into it. The most disappointing part was the gym. No weight, a few light medicine balls, no towels, no sanitary wipes, no water. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been cleaned in quite awhile. I’ll pay more to stay somewhere else if I am ever back in Pittsburgh. Parking spaces are TIGHT, which is probably par for a city, but no need to add door dings to my stay.

Honestly disappointed overall. Staff was decently friendly. We are in town from out of state for surgery tomorrow at UPMC. We arrived a little early due to pre-surgery apt timing and they checked us in without charging an early check in fee. But that's the best thing I can say. It smells in here. Bad. Like a dirty musty smell. Even being in here for a little bit and my nose adjusting some, I can still smell it. There's also almost no amenities other than a small workout room. The tv channels are so minimal and there is no guide, no renting movies, nothing. The remote even sucks haha you have to hold down each button for a few seconds before they work and you have to go through channel by channel to see what's on without a guide. I'm also surprised that for a hospital so local to UPMC, using hospital location as a selling and promotional reason for choosing this hotel, breakfast doesn't start until 6am. Most morning surgery times are 5/6/7 in the morning, it would have been a nice to enjoy breakfast before heading to the hospital but we won't have time now since we have to be there before 6am. For the cost of a room per night PLUS $25 per day to park, I'd expect a little more and I definitely didn't expect this smell. It's bad enough that I'd request a refund and to stay somewhere else if it we were staying more than one night. Oh and there is also no hand soap? Is that normal now? There's only one small "face soap" and an individual make remover wipe. The hand lotion, shampoo, conditioner are bottles fixed to the wall and thats it.
