The George Washington Hotel

When I arrived at the hotel, it was dead. That should have been an indicator of the interest in staying at this hotel. I should've known something was wrong when my reservation was confirmed with a warning that I had to cancel at least three days in advance or forfeit an overpriced one night's stay ($257 for one person). I was placed in a room furthest from the third floor elevator and down a dimly lit hallway which was dingey, and, frankly, a little bit scary. Something out of a horror movie. Not another soul was on the floor seemingly, but I was placed in a room furthest. The walls and door frames had had multiple paintings over chipped painting. The room itself was sparse, only one chair, but no desk or lamps to warm it up, but a bathroom light and a main bedroom light. No coffee maker or anything to make a drink in the morning (there was a coffee shop in the lobby that opened at 8 a.m., but they were unable to sell me anything when I went in there around the opening because the cash register had not been opened). I kept the bathroom light on all night to feel safer. The cable television kept going out because the internet was unstable. There was no bath gel soap in the shower and no soap in the tiniest bathroom sink I've ever seen, so nothing to wash my hands with. The bath towels were more the size of hand towels and poorest quality I've ever experienced. The renovation on the bedroom floor was sad and shoddily done with the planks being different sizes coming up to the thresh hold of the bathroom door. I asked the hotel desk attendant for ice, because there wasn't a refrigerator to chill a drink, and I also asked to borrow a real wine glass. She asked me if I was going to steal the glass, which I found to be such a gross overstep, especially considering the rip-off that this hotel was already showing itself to be. The next morning the front desk staff were also incredibly unprofessional, insisting on knowing what I was doing in town and wanting me to tell them how great my stay was in the hotel. When I told them what I really thought of the sad, historic hotel, they seemed incredulous, as if this was the first time anyone ever said how poorly managed this hotel was. They didn't thank me for staying and begrudgingly printed off my receipt. The George Washington Hotel makes me reconsider all Historic Hotels of America. If this organization is willing to put their indicia on this miserable place, their word and name cannot be trusted.

I just want to thank the staff of the GWH for always recommending me to bridal parties in need of hair and makeup services. I love traveling out to little Washington, Pa for weddings at this fantastic hotel. The rooms are so spacious and clean. Easy parking, access and right up to the room I go. Staff is always super sweet and accommodating for things I possibly need. My company is Brookesy Beauty and I can't wait to do more weddings I have booked there this year!

I recently attended a wedding and everything was completely amazing elegant and the staff was so pleasant… they made this event so very special and the food was delicious on top of that every place was stunning with the architectural vibe just beautiful what a wonderful place and history is still being made
