Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites South Haven

Very overpriced for an older building in the state that it is in. The whole building smelled like the pool. The lighting was poor in the rooms, and there was only one blackout shade, so if you wanted privacy, you had to block out the sunlight.

Overall my husband and I had a good experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful when needed and although the rooms had a few nasty stains on the floor they were big and clean. Free daily breakfast was good with a nice size variety. Unfortunately we lost power for a few hours in the night and the elevator wasn’t working that morning so when we left we had to lug are suitcases/belongings down the stairs without using the cart on the elevator. Not the end of the world but it would have been harder for other guests to do. Very close to downtown South Haven and stuff we wanted to do so that was nice.

We should have just left before checking in. When we arrived, you could hear water gushing from the ceiling in the lobby dining area and the ceiling was about to collapse (the drywall was sagging with the weight of the water about 1 foot and appeared that it would burst like a water balloon at any second). We arrived in our room and found that it smelled musty and had mold above the shower on the ceiling and drywall here was also sagging. We requested another room and it smelled worse than the first. There were moisture control containers and air fresheners everywhere we looked - this hotel clearly has a problem. We spoke with the desk a few times and they simply didn't care. Do not stay here.
