Sand Dunes Resort Hotel

Location & Resort Experience As mentioned in other reviews, this resort includes privately owned condos that owners rent through sites like Airbnb and Vrbo, and some can also be booked directly. I booked our condo through Vrbo and honestly did not realize it was part of the Sand Dunes Resort. Had I known, I probably would have done a little more research on the resort itself beforehand. From a location standpoint, it is right on the beach and about five minutes from the main Myrtle Beach area, so it felt a little less crowded. The beach access is extremely convenient—you can take the elevator or stairs down and basically walk straight onto the beach. The lifeguards were out every day from about 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the chair and umbrella crew started setting up around 8 a.m. every morning. I know because our patio had a clear view of all the activity! The views from our balcony were beautiful at pretty much any time of day. I can’t speak for the actual resort-owned rooms, but inside the four walls of our privately owned condo, it was gorgeous. The owner paid special attention to every detail, and once we were inside, we really couldn’t hear all the activity and partying going on around us. The Sand Dunes Resort itself definitely seems catered toward families with younger children, and for that, it seems reasonably priced and fun. They have pools, including an indoor pool and, I believe, two outdoor pools, although I didn’t personally check all of them. There are also arcade games inside, which I know would have been a huge hit when my kids were younger. We saw lots of kids having a great time there. The resort also has a restaurant, pizza, an ice cream place, and a small store with drinks, ice and other items. I was surprised the store had lots of beach necessities like towels, sunscreen and aloe—especially aloe, which was much needed after a day in the sun! One thing I do have to mention is the bugs. We were told they aren’t cockroaches but some type of large water bug. Whatever they are, they are big and ugly! We saw them around the trash areas, parking areas, outside, and in the resort hallways. They were not invading our condo or living space, but we did see one or two closer to the room. It wasn’t enough to ruin our stay, but it is something people should know about. We arrived on a Saturday night, and it was definitely party central. On Sunday, a lot of the weekend crowd checked out, and by Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the entire atmosphere was much calmer with noticeably less partying. There are also several restaurants within walking distance, along with other resorts and hotels nearby. Across the way are some pretty nice residential neighborhoods as well. Uber Eats, Grubhub and DoorDash all appear to deliver to the resort. You may need to meet the driver in the lobby, although some drivers who know the property may be able to take the elevators up. Parking in garages or spots is a nightmare on weekends and even Monday - park & walk or Uber as you will not find any again. Overall, the biggest positives for us were the beachfront location, beautiful balcony views, incredibly convenient beach access, and our gorgeous privately owned condo. The resort itself is busy and very family-oriented, especially on weekends, but during the week it became a much calmer place to stay.

The management team needs fired . They over booked us but yet still took our $4,200 for our family trip . They made us check out of the room that we didn’t book after first night at 11:00 am and we had to wait until 2:30 to check into the room that we paid for . I had my parents , grandkids and family with me . My parents are older and have health issues . We couldn’t go yo store the first night we was there or even bring all of our stuff to the room because we had to check back out the next day and wait for our actual room . They wouldn’t compensate us for any of this but sure took our money . The staff is so rude . Management totally avoided me the whole time saying they was going yo call corporate and figure something out . They was always in meetings and never returned my calls. I called booking.com because that is who we booked under and they even hung up on them and also stated they weren’t giving any money back . The place was so congested and dirty . They only have 2 elevators and you have to wait forever because they are always full . I come to Myrtle beach every year and this was our first and last time staying here . It was terrible . We literally live at a whole day due to them over booking our room but yet taking our money . The worst experience ever here . Do not stay here they are horrible .

We loved all the water amenities and water park for the kids. However that was the end of our praises. Our feet were black within minutes of walking around the room. I went and bought a mop so our shoes didn’t stick to the floor. A bucket of spic and span would go a long way. There were food crumbs, sunflower seeds upon entering. There were no rags and our AC quit working and kept freezing up. Other than the water amenities I do NOT recommend if cleanliness if important to you.
