Rodeway Inn Downtown Convention Center

This motel will soon be gone and not too soon. There is nothing "hotel" about it. For those who have had a poor experience at this place, there are many other choices of quality lodging in Abilene, Texas.

The woman on reception informed us as we arrived that the room was “nothing fancy, but clean”. Ok, expectations duly lowered. I would absolutely have accepted something that was not fancy but clean, but what we were in fact presented with was something that was neither fancy nor clean. The bathroom was an absolute abomination. A rust-encrusted plug hole that I first assumed was some kind of dirty protest from the previous guest. Rice paper thin towels that covered less than half of my (not large) body, covered in unspeakable stains that I unfortunately only noticed once they were wrapped around me. One incredibly stingy roll of toilet paper that was non absorbent and fell apart when you touched it, not ideal for its job. Bed was hard and duvets smelled of someone else’s sweat, so spent a freezing night trying to keep it away from me. Internet is absolutely crap - sending an email from here took about 20min. I’ve been to some pretty shoddy places in my life without complaint and like to think my standards are fairly appropriate for a decent night’s sleep but this was just silly, clearly no effort put into cleaning the place at all or making it comfortable for guests. Don’t run a hotel if you don’t want people to turn up, with suitcases, inevitably annoyed.

I will NEVER stay at this hotel EVER again. First night we checked in and went to visit friends. Came back and my sleeping child had a bed bug on the pillow. We decided to check the beds and there was another bed bug in the pillow. Went to front desk with bed bugs in key envelope showed the desk clerk and guy said I would have to wait until the next morning when the owner came in. Next day I went and showed the owner who swears I bought bugs in with me. She moved us rooms and it was fine, except the toilet didn't flush, and the tub.... (pictured) we couldn't use the shower because it leaks to the room below. I was so happy to leave that dump. Never again. And we had to buy candles and febreeze to make the room smell decent.
