I waited two weeks to write this review to ensure I could provide a calm, factual account of our stay. Unfortunately, our experience at the Peninsula Island Resort and Spa was a massive disappointment that felt more like a scam than a vacation.
The Major Issues:
Misleading Photos: The tall main building featured in all the promotional photos simply does not exist. The property consists only of two shorter side wings, giving it the atmosphere of a 2-star roadside motel rather than a luxury resort.
Room Layout & Privacy: We were assigned a ground-floor room at the very end of a wing. The only entrance was through a back door behind the reception desk (see attached photo). Because the room faced the main pathway, we had to keep the plastic blackout shades down at all times for privacy, leaving us in total darkness.
Poor Maintenance: The window shades were partially detached and completely broken—once lowered, they could not be raised. Management never sent anyone to fix this, despite claims that they did while we were out.
Unprofessional Service: When we requested an extra bath towel, a receptionist named Abby flatly refused, stating we already had enough for the number of guests.
Billing Concerns: Despite paying $730 for a two-night stay, the resort has yet to refund our $100 security deposit after deducting a few mini-fridge items.
For $365 per night, we expected a resort experience. Instead, we received the worst lodging of our lives. I strongly recommend booking elsewhere to avoid being misled by their outdated and inaccurate photos

This place has no business having resort in the title!!! It’s a 60’s motel!!! Room was clean but old smelling. Parking is a half mile away. Paint peeling off everywhere you look. It’s is Way over priced

Great location. Right as you drive onto Island. Views of Gulf rating 5. Room 602A was 3 bedroom condo.
This is truly just a hotel room with a kitchen. You won’t be making meals here as utensils are limited. Great to have HH on the balcony.
A plus is breakfast is served every morning. Two pancakes, scrambled egg, and either bacon or sausage brought right to your table. Also for self serve are cereals toast, muffins, yogurt.
Another plus. After three days, a cleaning crew showed up and cleaned the rooms, changed linens, washed floor, washed windows, nice surprise.
Beach access. Walk the beach every day. We didn’t sit on the beach as renting beach chairs was $40 a day for two chairs and an umbrella. We did sit by the pool when the weather was good. Pool was freezing, but area around the hot tub was perfect. Walking distance to Margarita bar but take the beach. Would stay here again, but might look to see what else is comparable
