Prospector Motor Lodge

This motel was a blast from the past; I love motels that you can park in front of your room. Clean and comfortable and a friendly staff.

This is a LOVELY place to stay. The rooms are generously sized with well maintained interior. Knotty pine paneling on the walls and vintage tile in the bathroom. LOADS of atmosphere. Very reasonable prices. Family owned and operated. Wifi, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker in room. What more could you want?

Upsides: first, everything works. Decent wifi, no dumb web interface, DirecTV, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer. All the usual stuff in good order. Rooms are spacious and entirely paneled, including the beamed ceiling. It's clean and well maintained overall. Unlike many contemporary motels, the door will not automatically lock when you leave. This is not a bad thing, but have a caution if you're leaving anything nice in your room. Rooms are very dark during the day, with only one modest window. This is probably good design in this climate, and who's going to be indoors anyway? Quite comfy in the evening. We had an original painting in our room: a curious southwesty work with an interesting character. A welcome relief from corporate elevator art. Downsides: The original wall heater has been replaced by a very noisy through-the-wall heat pump. Since it's in the bath alcove, it is constantly cycling on and off with no option to leave the fan on all the time. Our reservation via the website did not get through to the motel operators. They honored the printout anyway, but ultimately you should probably call directly to book a room. There was no plug for the bathtub. As a saving grace, there is a plug for the sink -- but it's too small. However, if you remove the soap from its plastic bag, that will serve as a perfect gasket for the sink plug in the bath drain. Found a dead bug in the folded bath mat and a nearly-dead bug in the drain. Shower people would never have seen this one! Advisory: there is a loud and easily triggered dog in the office apartment. Getting a room further from the office is probably a good idea.
