The MainStay Suites Salt Lake City Fort Union was a very positive surprise !
Very large rooms with kitchen !!!
Eat and shop nearby.
To get to the center of Salt Lake City, however, you need a rental car

In fall 2024 I used the Mainstay Suites at Fort Union, Salt Lake while house hunting. I stayed there for approximately two months. During my stay I switched suites about ½ way through. This my impression of the property.
From the front desk, housekeeping and maintenance, the staff were all wonderful
The property guests are diverse from business people for shorter stays and long-term residents. Most seemed responsible and picked up after them selves outside and some didn’t seem to care.
Overall, for the price, the Mainstay is a good value. The rooms are larger and newer feeling than similarly priced hotels I’ve stayed in.
The paint and trim work were well done and clean. Water pressure was great.
The AC/Heater unit under the window worked great whether heating or cooling the room.
The TV worked well and had over thirty channels. I was able to connect my personal Roku and DVD player to the TV. To do so, I needed to lift the TV from the wall mount (which was pretty easy and did not require tools) to access the source ports then put it back on the bracket. During my stay I seldom heard the TVs other rooms.
The kitchen had a full-size refrigerator and microwave and dishwasher along with a smaller two burner stove. All seemed to work well. The utensils and dishes were sparse. Only two of each in the rooms I stayed in. There were a small number of pots, pans and cooking utensils. No oils or seasonings were provided but there is a Target across the street.
The landscaping was well done with lots of lawn and established shade trees.
The location is great with lots of food and shopping options within walking distance although there was a lot of traffic.
The bed was comfortable in both rooms.
Negatives:
First room. There wasn’t a screen on the window. I like to keep the window open most nights while weather permits. Doing so in this room allowed files in.
The second room – The refrigerator was very noisy, waking me up when it cycled on in the middle of the night. I requested a different room and the desk said they made a note. They never produced a different room. The toilet took multiple flushes to do its job.
Dog poop. This problem isn’t unique to the Mainstay. Some pet owners don’t even try to clean up after their pets. Walking in the park-like outdoors was tricky in some areas because of the poop. With only one dog station on the north lawn are, even people wanting to do the right thing might be tempted not pick it up.
I expected noise from other rooms which for the most part was minimal. An occasional argument, dog barking, kids crying and play. One night out of about 60 there was a loud argument in a room near me that went on for several minutes. I heard that the police were called but I didn’t see them.
My suggestion to Mainstay Suites management:
Put up more dog poop stations to encourage guests to pick up after their dogs. I suggest three more, one not far from the each of the wing doors.
Put up cigarette disposal near the west most door.
I know BBQ’s take a lot of maintenance. Keep it maintained or remove it from the property and the hotel amenities list.

Check in was basically good. The individual seemed a bit distracted, but was friendly. Hallway was visually appealing. Room was clean and had space. Nice size of closet, with laundry basket, too.
But, my room was loud. It wasn't the neighbors. The a/c unit was with volume that impaired sleep. At irregular intervals there was a pop/bang sound. Very loud. (I never quite figured out what it was.)
Easy-access location.
As the title says, goods and bads. Make your own choice. (Hopefully your room won't have all the noises.)
