My teen daughter and I stayed here for 7 nights while in SLC for an event. We are Super 8 aficionados - we travel a lot, and we're good with budget hotels. Let's break it down:
GOOD THINGS:
* The staff here were all friendly, and when you're here for 7 days you'll see a number of them.
* The Maintenance Team addressed issues too. While the situation that kicked this off was certainly no "good thing", our A/C died at 3:30am in the middle of our stay. (Temps were always 100 high 80 low with the majority of daylight 90+ degrees.) When I went to the desk the staff gave me the option to swap rooms or to have Maintenance work on fixing it while I was out. I suggested letting Maintenance try it, and if it hadn't been fixed when we came back at 5:30 to let us swap then. We came back to a room that actually had a better functioning a/c than it had previously. (I'll admit I was surprised.) I made sure to thank them the next day.
* The beds were very comfortable, the shower a bit narrow but functional. Fridge and microwave were welcome.
* Location is very convenient - Temple Square is just over 10 minutes away in one direction, grocery stores and chain stores are less than 10 in the other direction.
NOT AS GOOD THINGS:
* Well obviously the A/C died during our stay, which I was predicting because it was like the Little Engine That Could with respect to the weather (until it Couldn't.) It was set at a low 60 when we walked in and it was nowhere close to 60 - it seemed to be at a consistent spot where it was not cool enough to be cool but not warm enough to be warm, and we lived with it. Upon getting it fixed it was considerably different.
* No coffee maker in the room so I'd always go to the lobby to get it in the morning. (This is how I met the staff so I guess there's good out of it.) I've never seen a breakfast arrangement like this before, in that it's packaged powdered doughnuts like you get out of a vending machine, kept behind the counter so you need to ask them for it. I never took them up on it as we had breakfast stuff already or went out (Penny Ann's, a regarded local place is just a couple of minutes away - of course there's an IHOP next door too not that we went to the latter). I learned the last day they had yogurt too but wouldn't have known had it not been inadvertently mentioned.
* We had a room in front of the pool but the pool was tarped up the whole time we were there. We had no intentions of using the pool, but it would have been a letdown had we wanted to.
* I would say the curb is pretty oddly shaped and likely to scrape if you're in a lower clearance car, but that appears to be more of an SLC thing than a Super 8 because I kept finding this everywhere in town and came across a reddit thread discussing SLC curbs. Still, a good thing to know!
In the end, it was certainly not a perfect stay but the friendly staff and the prompt maintenance service won us over and I could see their good will. I'm glad I stayed there and were I to return to SLC I'd come back here with no regrets.
