Big Meadows Lodge

Above glamping but some issues with cabins. I write this as I await a call from their team as they sent me a survey about my stay and I gave them honest feedback and they asked for email and phone and said they would follow up. It's been three weeks and I know it takes time but really another strike. Look, there aren't a lot of places to stay in the park and this is centrally located which is awesome for hikes and visiting Monticello. And there is access to a dining room and bar area and a Wayside for food. But all are over priced. So the cabin.... small, quaint, bed was comfy, fireplace, but two chairs were pretty stiff and we had two days of rain to sit in them. There's a bathroom and shower, tiny, but you do get about 30 seconds of warm/hot water in the shower before it turns cold. We learned to lather up before going in the shower. But my favorite - we get to the cabin, we open the amoire/cabinet to put our clothes away for the week - - - there's a mouse trap loaded and ready. So we didn't put our clothes away and lived out of our suitacse. But at 2AM when the trap snapped and woke my wife..... well we checked in the morning and there was the dead mouse. Now I'm not a coward but I did not expect this and was not warned that these were the conditions. When I nicely told the lady at the desk, she just stared at me. I asked if she wanted me to handle it? She asked if I wanted maintenance to handle it?!? Well yes and could they reset it and could they look at out water issue. Was it an issue? Oh yes it is an issue, then yes, please have them look at that. Maybe the rooms are better. Maybe an AirBnB outside the park would be better. Maybe Skyland would be better. Advice to management - just communicate issues and train the front desk folks much much better.

Beautiful area with many activities to enjoy! Stargazing, hiking with our dog, camping, and watching wildlife were our favorites!

Perfect location for stargazing or just spending some off-line time with family.
