Bacon Mansion Bed & Breakfast

Beautiful b&b. Decor was very nice. Very narrow streets which you may end up parking on. Our bed sank toward the middle with 2 in it. Coming back early evening there isn’t anywhere to get ice or place a white bottle of wine in ice. Nor to store any leftover dinner just so you are aware. Breakfast is scheduled for 8:30 which is late if a person needs to get out for tours or hiking. The tub is the old fashioned claw foot you have to step over for shower, so if that is an issue, you may need to call before booking to see if other choices. There was a squirt of hand soap in bathroom and 2 squirts of shampoo in a small travel size. Shower had good temperature. Beautiful area.

Had to come up to Seattle for my daughter's university graduation. Because it was also a World Cup match weekend, the hotels (FIFA) were gouging and hotel prices insance. I was happy to have found this property in Capitol Hill at a reasonable price since it was walking distance to my daughter's dorm. Because I normally stay in hotels in the area or the airport, I was slightly anxious that I was going to be staying at a bed and breakfast as I hadn't done so in so long. I WAS SO GLAD I STAYED AT THE CECIL BACON MANOR!!! It is such a cool property; kinda victorian and with so much character! I stayed 2 nights at the Emerald room which seemed sub-basement but since the weather was unusually scorching, the room was quite cool (no A/C bit a fan was provided- totaly fine!) The common areas (library, salon, dining, and living area) were super cool and lots of things to look at. The Emerald room itself had a living area, huge bed, claw bathtub, shower and big bathroom. Wifi was decent. The furniture was cool, bed comfy and they even had an iron and board when I asked. bathroom amenities too! The included breakfast was fun as you sat with everyone starting at 8:30am (till 9:30) and the owner brought out the same for everyone (when I was there detary restrictions were taken care of)- Coffee, juice, was also available! It was fun speaking to all the other visitors and most were in town rooting for their teams in the WC. The area is residential meaning that is was quiet, safe, with lots of bunnies running round. It's about a good 12-15 minute walk to the link station with lots of commerce around that area. I had a great night sleep; the owner/chef(son) and the mom I interacted with were super nice and chill. Yes, it is a Bed & Bekfast so don't expect a hotel front desk, or safe, (I think there was a mini fridge outside my room though) . Just imagine staying at your favorite grandparents house, walking around and seeing all the cool history and decor of the manor, having a nice interactive breakfast with really nice guests, and a safe area walking distance to shops, restaurants, supermarkets and thrift stores. Otherwise choose a hotel LOL- I will definitely be back! Thank you Cecil Bacon Manor for a great stay!

It’s been a few years since we traveled to Seattle for a weekend away. As there are fewer real B&Bs now than before the pandemic, we gave this a try. First the good: The manor is exquisite - rich oak appointments, hard floors, secret passages, a massive dining room, and imposing stature from the street. It’s the textbook definition of a classic Seattle home built with generational wealth. Our room was quiet except the occasional jet overhead. Parking is offstreet and easy. The ingenious lock system uses a single RFID tab for room and main door. The common area is spacious and inviting with garden views (when in bloom), comfortable seating, lights everywhere - the perfect space to get lost in a book. The not-so-good/improvements. The blend of historical and tech needs improvement. Cat5 cables with wireless APs visible throughout the house distract from the classic charm. I have the same Unifi system, and it’s not hard to hide this equipment in the walls. Food. A good B&B is known for 2 things - the bed, and the breakfast. Failure to do either well, results in a disappointing stay. We’ve been to MANY inns around the country and internationally over the past 3 decades. The gold standard was set by Chambered Nautilus which sadly closed 10 years ago due to retirement. Breakfasts were art. At Cecil, as others have noted, you get 1 hour for breakfast - it’s narrow - no exceptions. The food needs improvement in not only the volume but the quality - at these prices, I expect much better quality, ie: baked good should be from scratch. We ate close to 9 and had to go out to lunch by 11. Coffee should be served well before and after the breakfast hour and should be second to none - it IS Seattle. Linen service - We observed no housekeeping staff during our stay. Our washcloths ran out. There was a number to call, but we’ve never experienced inn keepers who did not avail themselves to requests, questions, conversation, history of the manor, etc… in person. Overall, our experience was not as good as hoped and did not meet the benchmark. Others have commented they had great experiences - awesome! Give it a try. We may have had an off weekend, or maybe we’ve just done enough travel that we have different expectations of excellence.
