The Moore Hotel was one of those choices where I knew I probably wasn't booking the most upmarket hotel in Seattle, but I had done plenty of research beforehand and something about this place really appealed to me. The location was excellent for us, right near Pike Place Market and within easy walking distance of many of the places we wanted to visit.
We actually stayed at the Moore twice during our trip, at the beginning and again towards the end, and it definitely didn't disappoint.
From the moment we checked in, the service was fantastic. Mary checked us in on both occasions and was absolutely brilliant. She knew we'd only just landed after a long flight, got us checked in quickly, answered all our questions about breakfast and the local area, and ended up becoming our go-to person during our stays. When we returned for the second part of our trip, she remembered us, which was a really nice touch.
We had a lovely room the first time around, and when we came back, Mary gave us a bit of an upgrade. We ended up in a really funky room higher up in the building, complete with umbrellas on the ceiling and loads of quirky character. It was exactly the sort of room you want when staying somewhere like the Moore.
And that's really what I liked about this hotel. It has character. It hasn't tried to turn itself into some bland, modern, cookie-cutter hotel. It's traditional, quirky and has retained so many of its original fixtures, fittings and features. It's clean, tidy and comfortable, but it also feels like you're staying somewhere with a history.
One thing worth mentioning is that the hotel is connected to the Moore Theatre, so depending on where your room is, you may hear some of the theatre performances. We could hear it from our room on one occasion, but it really wasn't an issue. The performances don't go on particularly late, and we were usually out enjoying Seattle anyway. The latest we noticed anything was around 9pm-ish, and it never affected our sleep.
You also have to remember that you're staying in the middle of Seattle. It's a vibrant city, so if you're expecting complete silence at bedtime, you're probably looking in the wrong place. But for us, none of that detracted from the stay.
The location, the character of the building, the cleanliness and, above all, the service made the Moore Hotel an absolute winner for us.
And a special mention has to go to Mary. She was fantastic on both of our stays and really made us feel welcome.
We absolutely loved the Moore Hotel and, if we were coming back to Seattle, we'd have no hesitation staying here again. It might not be the most luxurious hotel in the city, but if you value location, character, history and genuinely good service, it's very difficult to fault.
