Stayed here while in town for an event our daughter was attending. With all the expenses from the trip, I was looking for a hotel that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. For the price, I thought the room and the grounds were clean and had a modern look with nice amenities. The staff was very friendly, and the hotel was conveniently located about 12 minutes from the event, which was great. The noise level was low, and the beds were comfortable, so we got a good night’s rest. Some people expect the moon even when paying a low price, but for what we paid, it was a good value. If we’re in the area again, I would stay here based on our previous experience.

I had booked a reservation online for the Comfort Inn in Charleston, WV. While traveling to Charleston, I became stuck in traffic on I-64 due to the flooding of the roadway. I remained stuck overnight for 7.75 hours. I called the hotel during that time and asked the overnight clerk, Taylor, for a late checkout. Taylor said it would not be a problem. When I finally made it to the hotel, I went to the front desk to speak to the clerk. Rebecca, the clerk, did not bother to greet me nor even look up from her work to acknowledge my presence. When she finally looked up, I started to explain my situation. I began with, “I was stuck on the interstate for seven and three-quarters hours…” and before I could finish my sentence, Rebecca responded with, “So was everyone else.” I was shocked by her discourteousness, not only interrupting me, but being so curt and dismissive of my terrible situation. Rebecca then continued with, “So, what do you want to do? Check in?” I said yes. At this point, a good front desk clerk and a sympathetic human being would have said that she would try to see if she could give me a late checkout. Instead, Rebecca immediately said that I had only three hours left, that checkout was at 11:00 a.m., as if I shouldn’t even bother to check in. When I told her that I had spoken to Taylor on the phone a few hours before, who had said that I could have a late check out and that Taylor had put it in the computer, Rebecca made a disbelieving face. When she checked on the computer, she casually said, “Your reservation has been canceled.” In shock again, I said that couldn’t be the case because I had used a credit card for the reservation, which therefore guarantees the room. Rebecca stated that Taylor had canceled the room, and, to end this situation, Rebecca stated that she had no rooms to give me. So, after not sleeping overnight, I had to continue driving 220 miles sleep-deprived to my destination due to Rebecca’s discourteousness and uncaring attitude and Taylor’s ineptitude. If you want to be sure of having a room to stay in at the end of your day’s journey, I would advise you to choose another hotel, where you will be guaranteed a room if you reserve it by credit card, and you will not face a nasty front desk clerk such as Rebecca, who doesn’t know the first thing about customer service.

This was just a stop, spend the night and be on your way the next day. The place was clean, beds were comfortable and front desk staff were courteous. Breakfast was just okay. There were the usual cold cereals, yogurt and some apples and oranges. They served scrambled eggs and sausage, but both were cold. The oatmeal was instant. They did have a waffle maker. I guess better than nothing.
