The Morris Harvey House

Overall a good experience but not a true B&B experience. First the good parts ' excellent, high quality linens and I slept like a baby. Everything was reasonably clean and close to downtown Fayetteville. We walked to dinner every night. Fayetteville is small but eclectic. Not much to see in town but just a short drive to The New River Gorge National Park. Now the not so great. I would characterize this as a self-service B&B. The only time we saw the owners or any staff at all was when Eric came to do some repair work on the back porch. He didnt even get up to say hello. The "continental breakfast" is a coffee and tea machine and some prepacked Benita bars that were in a jar which is fine but misrepresented as a continental breakfast. Nothing fresh and no one around to help in any way. The cost of the room is what you expect to pay for a true B&B experience not a do-it-yourself Bed only experience. If it had truly been a continental breakfast as advertised, then I would have been satisfied but it was not even close.

Photo of the inn does not match its current state. We stayed in the Grand Room - it felt like sleeping in a large attic decorated with family relics that no one wants to throw away... but should. The whole house is like that. It's more of a tired old house than an historic inn. It's clean but lacks any charm. No amenities (except Turkish bathrobes and water in the room) and no services. Overpriced. The stars are mainly for location - a short walk to all restaurants in Fayetteville and a short drive to the New River Gorge Bridge and many hiking trails.

Beautiful home with private areas.v House is located near the main Street with several restaurants and interesting shops. Located a couple miles from the national park. We stayed in the loft. There was a comfortable sitting room with several interesting beverage choices including wines in the fridge. There were several interesting pieces of antique furniture and old family photos. Beds were comfortable. The only caution for the loft are steep stairs and low ceilings.
