HAMPTON INN LA CROSSE-ONALASKA

I'll share the pros and cons here. First, the pros. The room was a good size (we upgraded to a corner room on the 3rd floor). The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The couch was also comfortable. The coffee at breakfast was really good and the breakfast buffet hot and managed well by the attendant. We were greeted by a warm and friendly woman at the front desk upon arrival. Now the cons. The room smelled strongly of wet dog. We informed the front desk immediately. They didn't offer to have housekeeping try to rectify the situation nor did they offer any sort of compensation. We did say that we would stay in the room, thinking we could air it out as the window opened. After several hours of having the window open (which wasn't pleasant due to the highway noise) it did nothing to air it out. In the evening, I took off my shoes to find that the carpet was sticky. Not a section of the carpet...the whole carpet. It made the bottom of my feet sticky. I had to wear shoes or socks at all times. We stayed two nights. They next day I complained again about the wet dog smell and the sticky carpet but again, was not offered to change rooms or any sort of compensation. All I got was a "sorry". In hindsight, I should have asked to change rooms immediately.

Courtney at the front desk did an awesome job! The first room we were given had broken beds, hair in the bed, hair on the sink, hair on the toilet & the bathroom overhead light didn’t work. Went to the front desk to see if we could get a different room. Courtney apologized & changed our room. The second room was spotless & cleaned by Lex. Great job on cleaning the room Lex! We appreciate your hard work!! Courtney set the perfect example of how to handle service recovery.

At check-in, we were greeted by a fellow who was welcoming and friendly. He explained things to us, including hours for the free hot breakfast AND offered us a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie, which was available to guests. Lee Anne, who took care of the breakfast prep was awesome. The breakfast was a nice selection of western omelette, bacon, plus all the other items you would expect at a hotel breakfast to include cold cereal, oatmeal with several toppings, waffles, fresh, fruit, yogurt, breads, muffins, juices, and coffee. The gal at checkout was friendly and accommodating. The room was clean, comfortable and updated. I think the mattresses were the best we’ve slept on at hotels. Lobby was very nice with adequate room to sit and read or watch TV. We will definitely stay here again when traveling through near the LaCrosse, WI area. Highly recommend.
